Iranian Speaker Felicitates Muslim Counterparts on Advent of Ramadan

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani felicitated his Muslim counterparts on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, a season of fasting and spiritual reflection.

In separate messages sent to his counterparts in the Islamic states on Monday, Larijani hoped victory and God's blessing in the fasting month of Ramadan for the Islamic Ummah (community) and further unity and brotherhood among all Muslims.

Ramadan is the ninth month on the Islamic calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured; from dawn until sunset.

Fasting is meant to teach Muslims patience, modesty and spirituality. Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of Allah, and to offer more prayer than usual.

Larijani also underlined the importance of the International Qods Day which is held on the last Friday of Ramadan, and said due to the commemoration of the Day by all Muslims across the world, the voice of the Palestinian nation for the freedom of their lands is heard more loudly and an endless hell has been created for the occupier Zionists.

The International Qods Day was started by the late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in 1979 as a way of expressing solidarity with the Palestinians and underscoring importance of Qods to Muslims.

International Qods Day is an annual event opposing Israel's occupation of Baitul-Muqaddas. Anti-Zionist rallies and demonstrations are held on the last Friday of Ramadan in Muslim and Arab countries around the world, and especially in Iran.
