Iran Blames N. Warships for Damaging Persian Gulf Ecosystem
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the presence and voyage of the trans-regional powers' nuclear vessels in the Persian Gulf has incurred vast damage on the ecosystem of the waterway.
Nuclear aircraft carriers are equipped with nuclear propulsion system which causes environmental damage to the region, Rear Admiral Sayyari told the Islamic republic news agency.
He said the presence of trans-regional forces in the Persian Gulf has destroyed the regional ecosystem, adding such forces should be held accountable in this respect.
The presence of trans-regional forces has undoubtedly created instability in the region, he said, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly voiced its readiness to provide regional security.
The commander noted that the trans-regional forces claim that the main reason behind their presence in the Persian Gulf is safeguarding the regional security, while Iran believes that such a presence would cause regional insecurity and environmental damage.
