Iran Wins First Gold Medal in World Wrestling Championships

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran won its first gold medal in the 2011 World Wrestling Championships in Istanbul on Monday night.



Iran's Greco-Roman wrestler Saeed Abd-e Vali won the gold medal in the 66kg class after defeating his Georgian rival in two straight times.

The silver medal went to Manuchar Tskhadia of Georgia and the bronze to Hyeon-Woo Kim of South Korea and Pedro Mullens Herrera of Cuba.

The 2011 World Wrestling Championships are underway in Istanbul's Sinan Erdem Dome in the men's freestyle and Greco-Roman categories, and will run through September 18.

The top six in each weight category will secure a place for their teams at the London 2012 Olympics.

At the end of the championships, the nationality of the first 108 participants in the Olympic Games will be known.
