TEHRAN (FNA)- The final statement of the 16th heads-of-state summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which is still under discussion by the participating leaders of the member states, includes several paragraphs in support of Iran's right to use civilian nuclear technology, sources said.
An informed source told FNA Friday evening that the 680-paragraph statement will cover a wide range of topics including:
opposition to political misuse of human rights
necessity of nuclear disarmament
opposition to racism and Islamophobia
developing a mechanism to follow up on NAM's approvals and decisions through a secretariat
support for Iran's right to make a peaceful use of the nuclear energy
opposition to the United States' unilateral sanctions
support for the Palestinian people's rights
A total number of 63 leaders had asked for addressing the summit. On the first day, 20 heads-of-state delivered speeches, while over 40 others conveyed their opinions to their counterparts in the largest international grouping after the UN today.
The closing ceremony of the NAM summit will be held after the leaders' speeches tonight. The summit meeting is due to issue a final statement at the closing ceremony, which reportedly has over 680 paragraphs on various topics, including opposition to aliens' interference in Syria's internal affairs, opposition to the unilateral sanctions against countries and also supporting countries' independence.
