MP: US, West's Interests Threatened by Tehran NAM Summit

TEHRAN (FNA)- A member of the Iranian Parliament on Tuesday called the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran as a great opportunity for the Islamic Republic, and said the gathering of the bloc in the Iranian capital would threaten the interests of the West, particularly the US, in the region.

Spokesman of the Parliament's Presiding Board Abdolreza Mesri told the Islamic republic news agency that holding the NAM summit in Tehran will be a turning point for the Islamic Iran since the bullying powers, including the US, have used their utmost power to prevent Tehran from hosting the meeting.

The stability and strength of the NAM member states will challenge Washington, he said, and added that the NAM member states have always made remarkable and independent decisions on different international issues.

Mesri said the main Muslim and regional issues, specially the latest developments in Syria and Bahrain will be on the agenda of the upcoming NAM summit in Tehran.

The 16th NAM Summit will be held in the Iranian Capital of Tehran, from August 26 to 31 in which over 100 NAM member states as well as world leaders and officials will participate.

NAM is comprised of some 120 member states and 17 observer countries.

Iran is due to receive NAM's presidency from Egypt in the Tehran summit.
