Iranian President Calls for Activation of All Potentials in Ties with Nigeria

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that activation of all potentials in relations between Iran and Nigeria is deemed necessary by Tehran, specially in economic, cultural and tourism fields.

Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with Nigeria's new Ambassador to Iran Alhaji Tukur Mani on Wednesday, stressing the importance of development of bilateral relations between Iran and Nigeria.

"Independent states should strengthen their solidarity and have cooperation with each other in order to make a better world for the future generations; all the potentials of Iran and Nigeria should get activated in all fields and in particular in the fields of economy, culture and tourism."

Earlier this year, Ahmadinejad and Nigerian Vice-President Namadi Sambo also agreed to boost the two nations' cooperation in various areas of power supply, agriculture, science and education.

The agreement was part of the talks between the Iranian and Nigerian leaders in a meeting held on the sidelines of the 16th heads-of-state summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran late August.

Sambo stated that to materialize the decisions taken at the Summit, the level of development in the country calls for partnership so that both countries can materialize their developmental objectives.

He said though there are Iranian companies in the country, Nigeria needs more cooperation with Iran to enable its participation in its developmental goals specially in the power sector.

He also used the occasion to highlight what the country has done so far in building both thermal and hydro power projects as well as other projects in agriculture.
