Iran, Armenia Sign Agreement on Extradition of Criminals
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran and Armenia signed two agreements on extradition of criminals and judicial assistance on Monday.
The agreements were signed by Iranian Justice Minister Seyed Morteza Bakhtiari and his visiting Armenian counterpart Hrayr Tovmasyan on the sidelines of a meeting between Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani and Tovmasyan here in Tehran on Monday.
Iranian Deputy Justice Minister Ali Sadati said on Sunday that the agreement on the extradition of criminals will be the first of a kind between Iran and Armenia, adding that the agreement envisages extradition of 12 Iranian prisoners from Armenia to continue their prison terms in Iran.
He said that foreign prisoners are usually found guilty for lack of knowledge about laws and regulations of the hosting countries.
Iran has inked about 20 of such agreements with different states and 30 of them are waiting to be signed with more countries, the judiciary official added.
