The number of participants in this Olympiad is 4,000 more than the participants in the previous year's competition.
Aimed at promotion of nanotechnology at high school level and to discover talented students to work on effective research plans, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Olympiad was held in 2010 for the first time.
The Olympiad consists of two sections. In the first stage, students participate in a written examination based on determined references. Students who qualify in the first stage will participate in a practical (laboratorial) and calculation (simulation) course in the next stage. In the end, an examination is held to evaluate what they have learned in order to select the top students.
The purpose of this examination is to provide a better understanding of nanotechnology for the next generation of Iranian researchers, and to strengthen their scientific and practical abilities to create new ideas in this novel technology.
Nano Club, as well as being training the students in the field of nanotechnology, supervises the organization of the examination across the country. Among other major activities of Nano Club, mention can be made of the opening of students' laboratories in the country in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training. A number of eight laboratories have so far been opened all over the country, and the plans for opening more centers are being implemented.
