Omani Top Diplomat to Discuss Regional Issues with Iranian Officials
TEHRAN (FNA)- Omani Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah who arrived in Tehran on Wednesday evening is due to meet with high-ranking Iranian officials on the latest regional developments.
Bin Alawi was welcomed at Tehran's Mehrabad Airport by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian upon his arrival Wednesday night.
During his day-long stay in Tehran, bin Alawi is expected to exchange views with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on the ongoing regional issues and ways to bolster mutual relations between Iran and Oman.
Topics of discussion would most likely include the issue of Syria, where a deadly unrest has been going on since 2011.
Iran and Oman have expanded cooperation in a variety of areas such as economy and defense since Iran's President Ahmadinejad took office in 2005. The two countries signed a security agreement in August 2009.
In August 2010, Iran and Oman signed an agreement to further boost mutual cooperation in the field of defense.
In December 2010, the Iranian parliament approved a bill that allows Tehran to implement an agreement on security cooperation and coordination with Oman.
