At the meeting, Khorramshad called for the two countries' cooperation to confront the west's policy of encouraging extremist and Salafi groups, and said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to introduce Islam and the wisdom-based school of Shiism against the actions taken by extremist and Salafi groups."
Medinskiy, for his part, welcomed Khorramshad's proposal for the further expansion of cooperation to confront and defuse the moves of extremist groups, and said unfortunately, the irrational actions of extremist streams have caused a major part of the damages inflicted on the Islamic world and Muslim countries.
Iran and Russia have vast cooperation in different fields, including cultural, political and economic spheres.
The two enjoy also special position on the international scene and have long held constant consultations on key regional and global issues.
