Commander: Iranian Army Keen to Hold Joint Military Drills with Neighbors

TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan voiced the Army's willingness to hold joint military exercises with the friendly and neighboring states.

"We are seeking to hold joint military exercises with friendly and Muslim states. Of course, the neighboring states are prioritized (for joint drills)," Pourdastan told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with foreign military attaches here in Tehran on Tuesday.

In January, Iranian and Omani naval units staged a series of joint maneuvers in Iran's Southern waters to practice their skills and capabilities in rescue and relief operations.

The Iranian Navy's surface and air units as well as several units of Oman's Royal Navy Force took part in the Iran-Oman joint relief and rescue drills in the Southern waters of Iran's Hormuz Island.

Elsewhere, Pourdastan pointed to his meeting with the foreign military attaches in Tehan, and stated that one of the objectives of such meetings is establishing contact with friendly and Muslim states to help to the advancement of military units.

Iran's Armed Forces have voiced their preparedness to stage joint military exercises with the regional countries in a bid to show that the regional states can restore peace and security to the region without foreign aid or presence of the alien forces.
