 Functions:

 

 

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry performs the following functions and duties:

 

  1. Negotiate international, regional and bilateral treaties and conventions in the field of commerce and trade.
  2. Formulate and oversee the implementation of the Republic of South Sudan’s commercial, industrial and trade development policy and necessary legal framework.
  3. Formulate and supervise implementation of legislation, regulations for weights, measures and standards, dates and standards of time and consumer protection.
  4. Define minimum standards for maintenance of quality control of goods and services.
  5. Establish and supervise the South Sudan Bureau of standards
  6. Coordinate policies for promotion of activities that encourage development of small scale industries.
  7. Develop and oversee regulations, contracts, protocols and agreements in the field of commerce and industry.
  8. Establish minimum national standards and uniform norms in issuance of commercial and trade licenses to individuals and companies.
  9. Participate in preparation of economic and financial policies to achieve commercial development in South Sudan.
  10. Provide technical and commercial information on the opportunities for trade in expansion to the private sector in order to enhance economic development.
  11. Promote the exports of South Sudan’s products.
  12. Facilitate the development of wholesale markets and the efficient distribution of goods and services throughout South Sudan.
  13. Facilitate access by the private sector to commercial and marketing research, together with new technologies.
  14. Provide technical assistance, training of other capacity building to state governments and other local governments to build their capacity to assume their responsibilities for commercial and industrial matters as defined in the Transitional Constitution and the Republic of South Sudan policy.

  3. Trade;
  4. Industry; and
  5. Standards. 

 

Projects and Programs: 

 

Southern Sudan Private Sector Development Project with the following components:

 

  1. Trade and Investment policy framework;
  2. Access to micro-finance;
  3. Building Industrial capacity; and
  4. Market system development.
  5.  

Publications and Documents:

 

 The ministry produces and publishes various reports.
