Public Transit

If you are traveling from San Francisco or San Jose, Caltrain is a good option. A one-way trip from San Francisco takes approximately one hour; a one-way trip from San Jose takes approximately 40 minutes. Caltrain also connects with stations and shuttles serving the San Francisco and San Jose International Airports.

A set of basic directions to Stanford University for travelers using public transportation is available on the Stanford Bay Area Transit website.

Parking along Museum Way is by permit only until 4 pm on weekdays; parking is free after 4 pm and on weekends. Limited metered parking is available along Lomita Drive in front of the museum, and a parking structure with both metered and permit parking is located on Roth Way. This parking structure is free after 4 pm weekdays and all day on weekends. Weekday parking is $2 per hour. Two handicap accessible parking spots are located on the corner of Lomita Drive and Campus Drive West, as well as two located on Lomita Drive at Museum Way.

Tour Buses

Reserving a time slot is mandatory to bring a tour group to Stanford. All campus tours and visits that are not organized by Stanford must reserve a tour access time slot. Visit Stanford University Parking & Transportation Services to obtain a permit. Alternatively, if you are a group visiting from an organization other than a tour group, your vehicle may drop you off in front of the museum and park in bus parking on Oak Road between Stock Farm and Welch Roads.
