Jonathan Pilat - Director for Information Technology

Jon leads the IT team in the H&S Dean’s Office, and is responsible for setting strategic direction and advocating for the community of Humanities and Sciences on IT matters.  He also participates in a variety of committees and working groups at the University level, including the CIO Council, the Identity Management steering committee, and the Cloud Collaboration project steering committee.  Jon has been at the University for almost 20 years as a student in the History Department and as a staff member in University IT, but is brand new to the School of Humanities and Sciences, having joined in April, 2015.  Outside of work, Jon sings in an all-vocal band, Hookslide [http://www.hook-slide.com].

 

Sean Brandt - Associate Director, Application Services

Sean serves as the Associate Director, Application Services, leading a team that delivers and supports software applications for the School of H&S. Sean is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of software developers, database, quality assurance, and business systems analysts. In addition to supporting his team’s activities, Sean helps make strategic decisions with respect to the direction of application, reporting, and business intelligence systems within the School. Prior to coming to Stanford, Sean managed the IT department of Lonely Planet Publications Americas office. Early in his career, as a Cartographer at LP, he created maps for destinations throughout North and South America. Unfortunately, this was from the safety of an office cubicle in Oakland, CA. Outside of work Sean is an avid cyclist and can be found most weekends racing throughout farmlands and office parks of Northern California in the Cat 3 classification.

 

Jessica Brooks - Communications, Education and Outreach Strategist

Jessica is responsible for providing communications and outreach support for the H&S IT team. She educates H&S constituents about campus-wide IT services through marketing initiatives, communications and outreach events. Additionally, she consults with H&S departments, programs and research centers on content strategy for their websites, and manages the H&S IT website. She also works closely with the H&S IT Director to convey the vision for H&S IT to relevant stakeholders via branding initiatives. Prior to working at Stanford, Jessica has held a variety of marketing and communications roles at the Oshman Family JCC, Gensler and Chevron Corporation. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and Spanish from UC Berkeley.

 

Ruel Calalo - Senior Application Developer

Ruel provides developer level support of the HandSOn application and its associated Oracle database. Daily tasks include code fixes, implementation of new features, and integration of new technology. Prior to joining Stanford, Ruel worked as a senior software engineer at an animation school in Emeryville. Early in his career, he worked on the first prototype MIMD computers at JPL and Lockheed and still remembers his first internship at SLAC.

 

Marion Groh Marquardt - Consultant | Website Builder and Project Manager

Marion works with departments and functional units within the School of Humanities and Sciences to build new websites on Drupal 7 that integrate with university resources and best practices. Prior to working at Stanford, she was the director of digital initiatives for a network of non-profits, and a manager at Microsoft. She has a bachelor and masters from MIT in computer science, and a masters in technology policy from the University of Cambridge, England.

Andrew is responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing support of financial planning applications for the School of H&S. His primary involvement to-date has been in the design, development, and roll-out of the Graduate Aid Tool.  He works directly with H&S Dean’s Office personnel, IT staff, and departmental users to understand business problems and craft unique technical solutions to fit those needs.  Prior to his engagement with Stanford, Andrew worked as a Manager at KPMG performing financial statement audit and attestation services, and is now a Principal at Retikal—an independently-owned financial software consultancy. 

 

Jacqueline Holland - Consultant | Technical Project Manager

Jacqueline serves as a Technical Project Manager, managing software application projects for the Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. Jacqueline is responsible for providing technical project management direction for the development, design and systems integration of applications to further school-wide initiatives from definition phase through implementation. Jacqueline proactively seeks opportunities to increase stakeholder satisfaction and deepen cross-functional relationships by having a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership for the projects she manages and the people she supports. Prior to Stanford, Jacqueline worked in an array of diverse sectors  -biotechnology, marketing, and education- which shaped her skills into an eclectic set of talents utilized in H&S IT. She is proud to contribute to the School of Humanities and Sciences and to work alongside an exceedingly talented team.

 

Eunice Kong - Business Systems Analyst

Eunice provides business and functional analysis in support of HandSOn, a key administrative application that automates critical processes, including finance and faculty management within the Dean’s Office. Working closely with customers across the Dean’s Office functional departments, Eunice helps to identify business needs and elicit, analyze and document user requirements. She is also responsible for generating use cases, test scripts, coordinating and leading application testing and training, and liaison technical solutions as the key individual involved in the intersection between business user needs and technical delivery.

Lily serves as the Project Manager on one of the Finance projects for the automation of the Budget Management tool. Prior to working with H&S, she worked as a consultant for an IBM Solution Partner implementing TRIRIGA, an Integrated Workplace Management System. Lily has prior Stanford experience working for Residential & Dining Enterprises.

 

Dustin Liang - Project Manager

Dustin serves as an IT Project Manager working on everything from school-wide initiatives to department focused projects. His current focus includes: Community Academic Profiles (CAP), website redesigns, computer security, and consolidating applications servers within H&S. Dustin works closely with departments and programs in the school to ensue university initiatives align with department goals. Prior to coming to Stanford, Dustin worked in the defense sector where he was responsible for financial and project management of government programs.

Mark Piercy - Research Computing Technical Liaison

Mark has been working at Stanford in research and software development for over 15 years. He has worked at The Genome Technology Center, HighWire Press, the Genetics Department and most recently at the Pande Lab on the Folding@home project. He has skills in bioinformatics, Perl, Python, Unix systems administration, WordPress and even a bit of Mongodb and AWS. His last project was the launch and back-end administration of the Folding@home Android client. He's also a ceramic artist and teaches at the Ceramics Studio here on campus. He graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Biochemistry and other than a brief time in the D.C. area, has lived in California for a very long time.

Irene leads the business intelligence and data architecture efforts within H&S. Irene has over 15 years of experience implementing business intelligence projects at a number of organizations. Previously she served as a  Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, architecting and building Oracle Business Intelligence and data warehouse solutions. Irene is located in the Littlefield Building along with the rest of the H&S IT team.
