Adaptive Execution of Strategy (XAPM223)

Course Description

Todays' dynamic business environment has broad implications for how programs and projects are planned and implemented, as well as for those who are chartered with leading these efforts. Organizations need to balance the need for both discipline and agility. This course will expose participants to new ways of thinking and enable them to help their organizations and teams operate with increased levels of agility, which may or may not include the adoption of agile software development approaches and techniques. Examples and case studies will be presented from a wide range of organizations, industries and functions, including: large multi-nationals to post start-up organizations; development to delivery to operations functions; and co-located to globally dispersed teams.

It is expected that participants have completed the SAPM foundation course, Converting Strategy into Action, before enrolling in this course.

Learn How To:

  • Compare and contrast PM 1.0 and PM 2.0 approaches, and the structural, cultural and strategic execution implications of both
  • Develop a framework for achieving desired levels of agility and discipline for executing project-based work
  • Apply a wide array of tools and techniques for project planning and execution derived from traditional "waterfall", agile, and lean methodologies
  • Identify appropriate leadership practices for managing diverse, distributed teams in "ambidextrous" project-based organizations
