Chemical engineers conceive and design processes to produce, transform and transport materials — beginning with experimentation in the laboratory and followed by implementation of technologies in full-scale production.
Our Master of Science (MS), available on campus or completely online, is a terminal degree program for those who want to gain advanced knowledge in a focused area of chemical engineering to pursue a career in industry or a professional degree such as medicine, law, education or business.
The Doctor of Philosophy is awarded after the completion of a minimum of 135 units of graduate work, satisfactory completion of any additional university requirements, and the following departmental requirements. Completion of an MS degree is not a prerequisite for beginning, pursuing or completing doctoral work.
Eric Shaqfeh is the Lester Levi Carter Professor and Department Chair of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University. In 2001 he received a dual appointment and became Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He is most recently (as of 2004) a faculty member in the Institute of Computational and Mathematical Engineering at Stanford.
By deepening our understanding of the fundamental processes of life, we can help improve human health. The department remains committed to both these missions.
Though the challenges implicit in sustainable energy production are immense, the department’s current research provides ample scope for optimism.
The department is committed to developing technologies that will improve and maintain environmental health.
The Departments of Chemical Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering at Stanford University are seeking applicants for tenure-track faculty positions at the junior level (Assistant or untenured Associate Professor).
Our graduate certificates are designed for students in industry, and can serve as a stepping-stone to earning a Master of Science Degree on campus or fully online.
