Errol Morris’ Standard Operating Procedure

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Bush, Cheney, Ethics, Iraq, Military, The Politics Of Film, The War On Terrorism, The World, Torture, Transparency, Video, War

The award winning documentarian trains his patented eye on the events that happened at Abu Ghraib prison in a film coming out on April 25.
From watching the following clips, as well as Frontline’s searing Bush’s War, a pretty clear picture emerges and makes it incredibly difficult for the Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld to put [...]

How Does The Credentials Committee Works?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Barack, Conventions, Democrats, Hillary

Greg Sargent breaks it down…
There are a total of 186 members on the credentials committee. Twenty five of them are appointed by DNC chair Howard Dean, and the remainder are alloted by state, in numbers based on each state’s population and Democratic performance.
The process that determines how those credential committee members are split between the [...]

Poll: Hillary Leads Obama In Kentucky 2 to 1

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Kentucky, Polls

This is one of the first polls we’ve seen out of this state so far, but it bodes well for the Clinton camp.
From SurveyUSA:
In a Democratic Primary in Kentucky today, 03/31/08, 7 weeks till the votes are counted, Hillary Clinton defeats Barack Obama 58% to 29%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for WHAS-TV Louisville [...]

Lieberman and the Shifting Center

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in Change, Democrats

On “This Week” Joe Lieberman remarked that he didn’t leave the Democrats, the Democrats left him by moving further left. This is substantively accurate as the Democrats since Bill Clinton have definitely moved from interventionalism towards isolationism and from free-trade towards protectionism. There’s little to indicate that Lieberman has changed many of his positions since [...]

Public Policy Polling has the numbers (pdf file)…
After a week in which both candidates spent a lot of time in North Carolina Barack Obama has retained a large lead in the state, according to the newest survey from Public Policy Polling.
Obama leads Clinton 54-36. His lead is particularly strong among likely voters who do not [...]

Gallup: Obama Lead Shrinks, Up By 8

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Polls

His lead shrunk by two since yesterday, but the biggest poll meme for the day is this represents 4 days of a statistically viable lead for the Illinois senator.

Maybe this is why we’re seeing the questionnaire story being floated today by the Hillary camp? More kitchen sink strategy?

Basra Power Struggle = Why We Should Leave Iraq

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Bad Decisions, Iran, Iraq, Military, The War On Terrorism, The World, War, al Qaeda

The more that comes out about the Iraqi government’s clash with the Mahdi Army, the more convinced I become that we should NOT have been involved in any way, shape or form. Not only that, our continued presence there will increasingly be used as a craven political tool instead of a force to fight terrorism.

Aides Lied About Obama’s Role In Survey?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, History

From Politico:
During his first run for elected office, Barack Obama played a greater role than his aides now acknowledge in crafting liberal stands on gun control, the death penalty and abortion — positions that appear at odds with the more moderate image he has projected during his presidential campaign.
The evidence comes from an amended [...]

Obamacans A Key To Pennsylvania?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Pennsylvania, Republicans

There’s no doubt that Hillary’s way ahead in the Keystone State, but what if Obama could get 90,000 Republicans to vote for him on April 22?
From NY Sun:
Of the 140,000 Pennsylvania Republicans and independents who switched registration in the last year to Democrat, the majority are Obama voters, the director of the Franklin and Marshall [...]

Bill “Judas” Richardson

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Hillary, Richardson

So, in an interview with the New York Times James Carville referred to Bill Richardson as “Judas” for endorsing Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton. Richardson has declined to stoop to Carville’s level but did comment on the Clinton campaign’s “personal venom” and “sense of entitlement.”
I’m not sure what Carville’s plan was with that remark – [...]

Bush Booed At Washington Nationals’ Home Opener

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Bush, History, Sports, Video

And trust me, this isn’t one of those videos where you’ll think, “Wait, are they really booing?” Sure, you’ll hear some cheers, but the boo birds are overwhelming.

What’s A Texas County Delegate Convention Like?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Hillary, Texas

Ask Paul Silver…
Our Travis County gathering of 8,000 was important enough to attract dozens of speeches by local candidates, elected representatives and included Terry McAuliffe of the Clinton Campaign. State leaders of the Clinton and Obama campaigns participated in our convention. The credentials committees that deal with disputes resolved scores of issues . My particular [...]

Richard Mellon Scaife Has Kind Words For Hillary

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Billary, Democrats, Hillary, History, Pennsylvania

The man who tried to destroy the Clintons is now almost endorsing the New York senator.
From Pitt-Tribune:
Walking into our conference room, not knowing what to expect (or even, perhaps, expecting the worst), took courage and confidence. Not many politicians have political or personal courage today, so it was refreshing to see her exhibit both.
Sen. Clinton [...]

So You’re Going All The Way, Are You?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Conventions, Democrats, Hillary

Not that it’s unexpected, but Hillary finally reveals she’s in it until Denver.
Obviously this doesn’t necessarily mean she will be, and candidates say some of the strongest, rah-rah stuff right before they drop out, but let’s just say she’s serious. And let’s say she takes her case all the way to the credentials committee. [...]

Gallup: Obama Leads By 10

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Polls

The undecideds are apparently starting to break for Obama. And even if the remaining 6% go for Hill, Obama will still be in the lead.

As Gallup points out:
This marks the first time either candidate has held a double-digit lead over the other since Feb. 4-6, at which point Clinton led Obama by 11 percentage points.

Al-Sadr Tells Mahdi Army To Stand Down

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Iraq, Military, War

Good news for al-Maliki’s credibility, but this could be a brief pause if there’s not agreement on the elections in the Fall.

The Clean Energy Scam

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Energy, Environment, Money, The War On Terrorism, The World

Bio-fuel is creating more problems than it’s fixing…like deforestation. This isn’t new information, but until the media starts pushing it on A1, nobody will care.
From TIME:
Backed by billions in investment capital, this alarming phenomenon is replicating itself around the world. Indonesia has bulldozed and burned so much wilderness to grow palm oil trees for biodiesel [...]
