Wes Clark Responds

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, History, McCain

He doesn’t apologize…
There are many important issues in this Presidential election, clearly one of the most important issues is national security and keeping the American people safe. In my opinion, protecting the American people is the most important duty of our next President. I have made comments in the past about John McCain’s service and [...]

John McCain’s Swift Boater Needs To Go

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, History, McCain, Military, War

Okay, I’ve finally heard some of things that Bud Day said on the conference call, and McCain better get rid of this guy or he has no right getting upset about what Clark said.
In any event, Bud Day still claims that the Swift Boaters were okay because they were just pointing out “the truth.”
“The [...]

Obama On Patriotism

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, History, Video

I thought this was another great speech by the Illinois senator, not only because it frames patriotism in a way that I think a majority of Americans can relate to, but also because it speaks to the idea of dissent being patriotic.
Take a look…

What did you think?

Rasmussen: McCain Up By 10 In Georgia

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Georgia, Independents, McCain, Polls, Republicans

McCain – 53%
Obama – 43%
Last month it was McCain/Obama, 51/41, so there’s not much change, and no doubt it’s a sizable lead, but I’ll say again that this is a state Bush won by 17 points, so just the simple fact that Obama is nearly within single digits is somewhat of a surprise.
Some details and [...]

Gallup: Obama Leads By 5

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Independents, McCain, Polls, Republicans

For the first time in a while, the daily polls from Rasmussen and Gallup show the exact same numbers…

The details…
Obama previously led McCain by a statistically significant margin — peaking at seven points — right after Hillary Clinton suspended her campaign for the Democratic nomination in early June. However, this lasted for only three days [...]

Why Is McCain Employing A Swift Boater As A Surrogate?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Bad Decisions, History, McCain, Military, Republicans

This is an interesting catch by TPM, especially in light of Wes Clark’s major gaffe over the weekend.
Seems as if the McCain camp has recently rolled out a new surrogate by the name of Bud Day…the same Bud Day who was in the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth commercials.
So the question now…why employ this guy? [...]

Obama Rejects Wes Clark’s McCain War Statements

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Dumb Things Said By Smart People, History, McCain, Military, Republicans

As well he should. This was extremely bad form by Wes Clark, especially after 2004.
From CNN:
“As he’s said many times before, Senator Obama honors and respects Senator McCain’s service, and of course he rejects yesterday’s statement by General Clark,” Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement.
Here’s what McCain said…
“I know that General Clark is [...]

Obama – 49%
McCain – 47%
Last month it was Obama/McCain, 49/42, so this newest poll represents a five point gain for McCain as undecideds seem to be moving exclusively to him.

Gender: Female (51% of voters)
Obama – 58%
McCain – 36%
Gender: Male (49% of voters)
McCain – 58%

Senate Minority Leader Admits GOP Will Stay Minority

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Congress, Democrats, Republicans, Video

This found via TPM…

With 23 Republicans up and only 12 Democrats, if the GOP holds onto what they currently have now it’ll be a miracle.

Romney Tops McCain’s VP List?

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, McCain, Romney, Veep

That’s the report coming out today.
Mitt Romney would be the “safe choice,” the guy you go with to shore up a range of weaknesses, not the least of which being the economy. But choosing Romney would sacrifice the opportunity to choose someone dynamic enough to shake up this race. Romney might help bring out more [...]

Attacking McCain’s Service Not a Good Strategy

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, McCain, Military

There are a lot of legitimate ways Barack Obama supporters can criticize John McCain. But one of the worst lines of attack I can think of is to go after McCain’s military service. And yet, we have Obama surrogates like Wesley Clark belittling McCain’s heroism and major liberal blogger John Aravosis making this ridiculous statement:
“Honestly, [...]

Wesley Clark, Please Remove Foot From Mouth

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Dumb Things Said By Smart People, History, McCain, Military, War

As opposed to misinterpreting what McCain said about gas prices…this one is crystal clear…
“I don’t think getting in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to become president.”
As Ambinder notes, this one belongs in “The Better Left Unsaid Department…“

Would Obama Keep Gates On As Secretary Of Defense?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Foreign Policy, Military

It’s just speculation right now, but his foreign policy advisors seem to think it’d be a good fit…
In defiance of traditional party labels, Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, may ask the defence secretary of President George W Bush to stay on if he wins the White House. [...]

McCain – 49%

This after he was leading by 20% in April.
Once again, McCain wins men handily, but Obama is doing better than expected among women…

What Really Matters To Voters This Election?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Energy, Environment, Foreign Policy, Health Care, Independents, Iraq, McCain, Military, Polls, Republicans, Terrorism

“It’s the state of America now that is the most gripping source of anxiety for Americans, not Al Qaeda or Iraq. Anyone who thinks they are going to win this election playing the Iraq or the terrorism card — one way or another — is, in my view, seriously deluded. Things have changed.”

McCain Doesn’t Know What Gas Prices Are?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Energy, Gas, McCain, Oil

What on earth possessed him to say this?
When was the last time you pumped your own gas and how much did it cost?
Oh, I don’t remember. Now there’s Secret Service protection. But I’ve done it for many, many years. I don’t recall and frankly, I don’t see how it matters.
I’ve had hundreds and hundreds of [...]
