MIT Scores Major Solar Energy Storage Breakthrough

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Energy, Science, Technology

Up until now, storing solar energy has been extremely expensive, but the code may have just broken, and by mimicking nature no less.
From MIT:
Requiring nothing but abundant, non-toxic natural materials, this discovery could unlock the most potent, carbon-free energy source of all: the sun. “This is the nirvana of what we’ve been talking about for [...]

The Electoral Vote Watchers Predicting Big Obama Win

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Electoral College, Independents, McCain, Polls, Republicans

I just did a few posts about the recent Quinnipiac polls for Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and that got me thinking about the overall electoral college outlook. After all, whoever gets to 270 first is what really matters.
So here’s what Pollster is showing…an easy Obama win…

Same story from Electoral-College.com…

So the question now is how can [...]

Obama – 49%
McCain – 42%
He has a clear lead here, but this is down from a 52% to 40% lead last month, so it’s certainly something for the Obama folks to make sure they’re noticing. However, not really a big cause for concern…yet.
Demo details…

Obama leads 50% to 39% with women.

Quinnipiac: Obama Leads By 2 In Florida

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Florida, Independents, McCain, Polls, Republicans

Obama – 46%
McCain – 44%
This is a statistically insignificant lead, so they’re basically tied. Last month, Obama lead by 4, 47% to 43%.
The shift appears to be happening among the independent crowd. Now they’re backing McCain by 5 points. Last month, Obama led among independents by 10. That’s quite a shift, and makes me wonder [...]

Majority Feel Surge A Success, But Even More Want To Get Out

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Foreign Policy, Independents, McCain, Polls, Republicans

By 52% to 41%, Americans believe that our latest efforts in Iraq have worked. That has to be heartening for the McCain camp and troubling for Obama, right?
Well…
The Illinois senator has said he thinks the surge has improved conditions on the ground but would still have not supported it, instead favoring a “strategy that [...]

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Independents, McCain, Polls, Republicans

It’s all tied up, after a big 9 point lead for the Illinois senator just four days ago.
Perhaps McCain’s attacks are working?

The details…
The race has been very close before, with Obama holding a 1-point lead as recently as July 15-17, and the race tied for several days in late June. The story of the [...]

With leaners
Obama – 48%
McCain – 46%

Obama – 45%
McCain – 43%
The numbers haven’t moved at all since yesterday, so we’re probably right back to where we were before Obama’s overseas trip.

Other polls have now confirmed what Rasmussen Reports was the first to report [...]

Obama and McCain Get Childish Over Race

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, McCain, Race

I’m losing hope that this campaign will be any less petty and deceit-filled than any other in recent history. Take this story:
Yesterday, Barack Obama was stumping in Missouri and said:
“Nobody thinks that Bush and McCain have a real answer to the challenges we face. So what they’re going to try to do is make you [...]

Hawaii’s Election Official Says He Was Too Busy To Register To Vote

By Glenn Church | Related entries in General Politics, Hawaii

It was bad enough that Kevin Cronin, Hawaii’s Chief Election Official, failed to register to vote for five months. It was part of the job qualification, but more importantly, he is supposed to set an example. By neglecting to register, he dismisses this important act as less important than his other duties. His excuse? Essentially, [...]

Why Won’t Tim Kaine Be VP?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Veep, Virginia

Well, first off…he keeps on talking…
There has been a long list. It seems to be getting shorter. And I’m still being mentioned. A lot can change day-to-day. But we’ll see.
…and talking…
Kaine insisted that he has “no hints about timing” for the veep rollout, whoever the choice may be. But he doesn’t seem to mind the [...]

Let’s Compare McCain And Obama’s Ads

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, McCain, Media, Video

First McCain put out this ad focusing on Obama’s celebrity…

Now let’s take a look at Obama’s response…which was put out the same day.

Who won? A former McCain aide has an opinion.
Personally, I think McCain’s ads just opens him up for Obama to get the “same old politics” jab. And that meme will stick to McCain [...]

Some Evangelicals Won’t Back McCain/Romney?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, McCain, Religion, Republicans, Romney, Veep

That’s the word from The Washington Times…
They say Mr. Romney lacks trust on issues such as outlawing abortion and opposing same-sex marriage and because he is a Mormon. Opposition is particularly powerful among those who supported former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in the Republican presidential primaries earlier this year.
“McCain and Romney would be like oil [...]

CNN: Obama Leads By 7

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Independents, McCain, Polls, Republicans

Obama – 51%
McCain – 44%
Last month he lead by 5, but the CNN pollsters claim that his overseas trip didn’t help him any…
The new survey also suggests the trip — carefully designed to burnish Obama’s foreign policy credentials — did little to alter voters’ perceptions of how the Illinois senator would handle national security issues.
“Did [...]

Obama and McCain Need to Get Back to Substance

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, McCain

Writing for The Wall Street Journal, Laura Meckler and Amy Chozick have words of caution for both presidential candidates. To John McCain: don’t look so whiny. To Barack Obama: don’t look so arrogant.
Meckler and Chozick point out that although it’s not even August and although polls are still relatively close, the candidates have assumed positions [...]

Hillary To Speak On Second Night Of Convention

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary

Well, looks like the Obama and Clinton camps have settled on a spot for her to talk on August 26th
From CNN:
Two sources close to Clinton said the former presidential candidate will speak August 26 with all female U.S. senators on stage with her.
“Tuesday night is Hillary night,” said one supporter.
The significance?

Gallup: Obama Leads By 4

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Independents, McCain, Republicans

Yes, the bounce is over, but as Rasmussen has shown (which seems to be ahead of Gallup by a couple days) this will probably settle back down to Obama leading by between 2 to 4 points until something else happens.

The details…:
interviewing conducted at the height of publicity surrounding the tour. At the same time, [...]

Hack Alert: Liberal Radio DJ Smears McCain

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, McCain, Partisan Hacks, Race

This is the type of stuff that makes me want to throw things…
Warren Ballentine, one of black talk radio’s new stars, was on a tear against Senator John McCain as he broadcast from the Greenbriar Mall here last week, blithely dismissing Mr. McCain’s kind words about Senator Barack Obama at the recent N.A.A.C.P. national convention.

McCain’s “Obama Wouldn’t Visit Troops” Attack Backfires

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Bad Decisions, Barack, McCain, Media, Memes, Republicans

McCain is better than that ad, and he shouldn’t have made it. What’s more, I think he knows this.
But just in case he doesn’t, the media is reminding him…
From Washington Post: For four days, Sen. John McCain and his allies have accused Sen. Barack Obama of snubbing wounded soldiers by canceling a visit to a [...]
