Lou Dobbs’ Ratings Drop Like They’re Hot

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Media, Memes

Perhaps CNN will take note and boot him? After all, it seems the cable newsers will allow nearly anybody on air if it’ll boost ratings.
But once ratings drop, well, sayonara. From New York Observer:
Mr. Dobbs’ first began reporting on Obama birth certificate conspiracy theories on the night of Wednesday, July 15. In the roughly two [...]

Poll: Only 42% Of Republicans Believe Obama Born In US

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Democrats, Polls, Republicans

A new Research 2000 poll reveals an incredibly disturbing view among registered Republicans. Because that means that 58% of them either believe he wasn’t born in the US or aren’t sure. That’s how far and deep this birthers’ nonsense has spread…from a racist chain email.
Here’s the question and the party breakdowns…
“Do you believe that Barack [...]

Devil’s Advocate – In defense of the clueless but passionate among us

By Solomon Kleinsmith | Related entries in News

I’m going to take on the role of devil’s advocate here.

I understand how you would want to deride this young woman for her pretty abysmal ability to communicate what she cares about, but some people just don’t know much. But unlike most…  at least she’s trying. She cares enough about this to stand in front [...]

What If Obama Walked Away From Health Care?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Barack, Health Care, Obama

Now that we’ve seen Obama’s approval start to dip, what would be the political repercussions for him to simply say, “Okay, I’ll kick this can down the road.”

Obama’s Approval In Free Fall

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Barack, Obama, Polls

These things tend to ebb and flow, but it appears as if the health care debate (and probably the Gates incident) has really taken a toll on his popularity among independents and moderate Dems. Because those are the folks who usually keep his numbers closer to the mid 60s.
First, there’s Gallup which shows Obama at [...]

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2012 Election, Palin, Polls, Republicans, Romney

A new NBC/WSJ poll has some sobering news for both of the 2012 hopefuls.
From MSNBC:
Palin stepped down from office on Sunday, and could be eyeing a presidential bid in 2012. But according to the poll, a whopping 67 percent of Americans — and 43 percent of Republicans — say they would not like to see [...]

Big Banks Give $5.33 Billion In Bonuses

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Bailouts, Banks, Money

And this is for 2008…a year when their failure nearly brought the entire world’s financial system to its knees.
I don’t care if these bonuses were contractual or not. New circumstances (you know…like BANKRUPTCY!) could allow them to renegotiate with their employees.
From the AP comes the list…
Citigroup…
Citigroup Inc., one of the biggest recipients of government bailout [...]

I feel dumber for having seen this, but it’s so hilariously clueless that I couldn’t stop watching.

SEIU Blues Puts Power in Moderates’ Shoes

By Solomon Kleinsmith | Related entries in Bad Decisions, Bipartisan, Democrats, Independents, Left, Liberalism, News, Politics

Not a whole lot of good has come the way to the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) these days. The only organization I can think of that gets more right wing scorn has been ACORN, who I think mostly get picked on because they don’t fight back. Another ally, Health Care for America Now (HCAN), [...]

Blue Dog Dems Reach House Health Agreement

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Democrats, Health Care, Video

It boils down to this…a public option will remain, but co-ops will be part of the deal too.
This will likely pass in the House, and the public option will be booted from the Senate’s version.
More from MSNBC…

Then Roll Call…
House leaders, the White House and four Blue Dogs on the Energy and Commerce Committee reached [...]

This is BIG news as it’ll ensure that a lot more people participate.

Why Isn’t Glenn Beck Fired By Now?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Media, Video

Yes, I know the reason. But still…
MSNBC laments…
What’s most amazing about this episode is that what Beck said isn’t a fireable or even a SUSPENDABLE offense by his bosses. There was a time when outrageous rants like this would actually cost the ranters their jobs.
But not anymore; if anything, it’s now encouraged.
Of note, after [...]

Quote Of The Day – Co-Ops Are Coming

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Health Care, Video

“There’s been no final resolution, but I think there’s a good chance the cooperative plan will be adopted, at least at the committee level. The notion of a cooperative plan is that it’s membership-controlled, membership-run — not government-run, government-controlled.”
- Kent Conrad on CNBC talking about the only workable national health care solution

‘President Obama Is A Racist’

By The Pajama Pundit | Related entries in Media, Partisan Hacks, Race, Video

Some salient discussion of Glenn Beck’s mystifying comments with the Morning Joe crew, sans Morning Joe himself.

I think that they are all correct in their assessments.
I do want to highlight one thing that Willie Geist touched upon. Around the five minute mark, Geist posits the idea that, had some commentator on the [...]

Best to let it speak for itself!

The Birthers And The GOP: A Shotgun Wedding

By Doug Mataconis | Related entries in General Politics, Republicans

Yesterday’s Politico had a front-page story about the difficulties that the “birther” movement is beginning to pose for the GOP:
When lawmakers return home for recess in August, they can expect to hear tough questions from constituents on the economy, health care and government spending.
But Republicans are preparing for something else: the birthers.
As GOP Rep. Mike [...]
