Today, the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History unveiled a new exhibit named after right-wing billionaire polluter, David H. Koch. Greenpeace dispatched its Climate Crime Unit at the opening of the $20.7 million David H. Koch Hall of Human Origins in search of Koch, the billionaire scion of Koch Industries and founder of a vast network of conservative organizations that deny the threat of global warming. Greenpeace research director Kert Davies noted that the true Koch family legacy is “one of environmental crimes”:
While David Koch’s oil wealth may get his name on a museum exhibit, the Koch family legacy is one of environmental crimes, lobbying to block clean energy, and funding global warming denial front groups.
David Koch’s political organization, Americans For Prosperity, is re-launching its “Hot Air Tour” aimed at opposing climate and clean energy policy, and is mobilizing opposition to health care reform with Tea Party rallies and false cancer ads. More at the Wonk Room.

Why is there an exhibit at the Smithsonian named after David Koch?
March 17th, 2010 at 3:53 pm“the opening of the $20.7 million David H. Koch Hall of Human Origins”
it’s cost 20.7 million to sit a bible on a pedestal? afterall, that’s what cancervatards believe about the origins of the human race.
March 17th, 2010 at 3:53 pmThis epitomizes the ‘baggers, birfers & barfers…
Rich people orchestrating white, aging idiots bussed in to form fake demonstrations against the entitlements they’re using themselves.
Kochs made millions in minerals while destroying pristine environments.
Now they’re using ‘guns for hire’ to proclaim the damage they did was good for America, while opposing meaningful reform.

Ain’t freedom of speech grand when slime like Koch have to face people who disagree with his views. No matter where he goes, Greenpeace and other environmental groups are there to fight Koch and his minions. He can’t buy enough of the Congress at any price because the environmental groups are there to keep our representatives honest.
March 17th, 2010 at 4:08 pmat the opening of the $20.7 million David H. Koch Hall of Human Origins
What a coincidence. That’s almost exactly how much they agreed to pay back in 2001 in fines for damaging the habitat of the humans depicted in their new exhibition:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Koch Petroleum Group, L.P. pled guilty today to covering up environmental violations at its oil refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Under the plea agreement, Koch will pay a total of $20 million dollars: $10 million in criminal fines and $10 million for special projects to improve the environment in Corpus Christi – a record amount imposed in an environmental prosecution.
March 17th, 2010 at 4:08 pm@8 I laugh every time I see old teabaggers on medicare and social security at the teaparties waving signs about “keep gubmint hands off my health care”..It never ceases to amaze me at how easily some people can be manipulated into voting against their own best interests!

Oddly enough a book by the same name raises a pretty good argument for progressive taxation…something Koch would piss and moan over.

That is nasty. There are a lot of older Baby Boomers who support progressive causes. It is the Baby Boomers under 50 that are Republicans because they think Reagan was a saint.

It works. Koch defintly fits a lot of stuff that Machiavelli wrote about…namely the part about only keeping ones word when it suits ones purpose.
Again, that would be my mom and dad..They don’t seem to understand that there are people out there who can’t afford insurance. They live by the “personal responsibility” crap so if somebody can’t afford insurance, then my mom and dad think that the other person was just “irresponsible” and didn’t get a better job with benefits or “save enough” money..

I have to say that, as an ‘older’ participant here, I truly love seeing you younger folks getting on board.
As you discuss your parents’ views, it becomes obvious that your conscience, not your wallet, is driving your political views.

I think many of them are just products of their childhood. It was acceptable to be racist, not one would call them on it and they just have that ingrained into their personalities.
I also think it is the same with government programs. They are a product of their time, where life wasn’t so complex. Health care in particular was in its infancy, and it didn’t cost much to see a doctor, primarily because there wasn’t much they could do. Today, health care is very expensive even if you take the profit out of it, simply due to the fact it is complex. “Back in the day” you could pay your doctor bill with a box of kittens. Today, a box of kittens won’t go very far.

Well, as liberal as I am, I am against illegal immigration. Not because I want to keep people out, but I think it is bad for our own citizens because it drives down salaries. It also harms the illegal worker, since they aren’t afforded the same protections that legal workers have.
I don’t want to eliminate immigration, just reform the system.

Haha…they rarely play those commercials around here anymore.
However, I think I’ll change that to “it’s so easy a republican can do it”…

The republicans make f***ing up in the biggest possible ways look incredibly easy and they seem happy about it.
They are practically neanderthals anyways…

TEH GOVERNMENT IS AFTER YOUR SOCKS! Soon they’ll take your boxers…by force! Hitler took the socks of those he harmed!
That would be just like the Repbulicans, trying to get in a guys pants and take his underwear…among other things… ;)
I’m more worried about my wife slipping either sedatives or anti-psychotics in my coffee in the morning after seeing me rant like Beck.
If I saw you ranting like Glenda Becky, I think I would slip more than sedatives or anti-psychotics in your coffee :D

I kinda feel bad insulting neanderthals by using the term to insult republicans. Neanderthals were perfectly adapted to their environments and evolved into the dominant hominid species to be around for thousands of years. Much longer than modern man has managed so far. Republicans on the other hand…I’m not even sure they’re sentient let alone human.
bizzarobrain,
I sometimes think we do too little stereotyping of religious people. Or, at least, we give them a pass on enabling the worst that their faiths have to offer.
For instance: Crazy Shelly (InsaneR-Mn.) would not be in the U.S. Congress without the support of religious leaders who have violated federal campaign law to endorse her from the pulpit. I have met several people who have voted for her strictly because their preacher has told them “she’s a good Christian”.
I would even go so far as to enact legislation that would result in the immediate recall/impeachment of any lawmaker who uses a religious precedent for governance.

Well that’s one way to look at it…maybe the correct way should be our criticism of religion should be better placed. Ignore the trivial shit like Andrew Schlafly’s retarded rants and focus on the big stuff.
What you just said about Bachmann could apply to Bush and Palin as well. I agree with giving politicians who violate the separation of church and state the boot (that’d probably be most of the Republicans) but I’d go one further and (if at all possible) fine them.
March 17th, 2010 at 5:40 pmbizzarobrain,
I think that the Schlaflys, Robertsons, and Fred Phelpses are “the big stuff”. We need to hang these freaks around the necks of those who try to hide from their part in enabling said freaks.
For instance. I would love to shame the vast majority of Catholics into withholding their tithes until such time as the Catholic Church officially, and publicly, outs every single ped0phile and hands them over to secular authorities for prosecution. If the Mother Church can’t afford to pay hush money? The guilty would be prosecuted in an instant.
The Reichwhiners love to use guilt by association as a weapon. It’s past time for sane Believers to join agnostics and atheists in using the same weapon against those who hide behind their avowed Faith. Personally, I don’t feel the slightest guilt for making a Believer feel “persecuted” for not standing up.

Totally agree.
I think we could probably get Schlafly evaluated for mental illness and just revoke the tax exempt status of Robertson and Phelps…if they’re gonna spew shit they’re doing it on their own $. And it would be an interesting way to bankrupt the Catholic church or at least seriously f**k with its profits.
Plus we need more campaigns like the atheist bus sign stuff only they’d expose the charlatans in the churches as the BS artists they really are.

Amen. I’m fully convinced that Phyllis Schlafly is evil incarnate and her son subconsciously reverted to a retarded state of mind to be able to handle it.
I am shocked by how sloppy and crude the Smithsonian has become recently. I dropped my membership, feeling something was no longer ‘right’ about what it was doing. Now I know why.
