What happens when the rule of law is broken and true justice is denied? The ACLU video series "JUSTICE DENIED: Voices from Guantánamo" features former detainees who were held by the U.S. in Afghanistan and Guantánamo for years, without charge or trial, and without any meaningful opportunity to challenge their detention. In the American system of justice, suspects are tried and prosecuted based on the constitutional principle of due process. People are supposed to be assumed innocent until proven guilty -- not swept up, tortured and indefinitely detained. But the men in this video series were captured, abused, held and released without any explanation or apology. These are their stories.

The following four videos are included in the Flash piece above:

The story of Moazzam Begg: A British citizen who was detained at Guantánamo for three years after trying to set up a school for girls in Afghanistan.

Running time: 4 minutes 42 seconds

The story of Omar Deghayes: A law student from England who was sent to Guantanamo after studying the legal system in Afghanistan. He was detained for five years and lost the sight in one of his eyes after he was beaten.

Running time 4 minutes 28 seconds
The stories of Ruhal Ahmed and Shafiq Rasul: They were childhood friends born and raised in England. They spent two years in Guantanamo after going to a friend’s wedding in Pakistan.

Running time 5 minutes 16 seconds

The story of Bisher al-Rawi: A British resident who was sent to Guantanamo for four years after trying to open a peanut-oil processing facility in Gambia.

Running time 4 minutes 43 seconds

The following video is a stand-alone long-cut of the interviews. Released 11/02/2009:

Justice Denied Overview : The combined stories of five men in Guantánamo.

Running time: 9 minutes 30 seconds
