With its 19 member states, population of 430 million (2008) and an annual import bill of around US$ 152 billion (2008) and an export bill of over US$ 157 billion (2008), COMESA forms a major market place for both internal and external trading. Malawi Signs CAADP Compact, Zambia and Zimbabwe to follow

The Republic of Malawi signed the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) compact on 19 April 2010, joining five other COMESA countries that have signed between the year 2007 and 2010. Those that have signed are: Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Swaziland and Uganda.

COMESA Designing a Regional CAADP Compact

COMESA Secretary General Mr Sindiso Ngwenya, on Monday 19th April 2009, announced that within the context of CAADP, the COMESA Secretariat in partnership with FANRPAN is designing a Regional CAADP Compact, adding that the Draft Regional Compact is expected to be presented to the COMESA Ministers of Agriculture in Swaziland, next month.

African Trade Insurance partners with Egypt's export credit agency to spur trade and investments in Africa

The African Trade Insurance on 13 April, 2010 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Export Credit Guarantee Company of Egypt (ECGE) which will see the two institutions work together to facilitate more domestic and Foreign Direct Investment and exports into Africa.

The COMESA Secretariat has lost its Procurement Expert Ms Rose Masese who was killed in a carjacking incident in Nairobi, Kenya. Ms Masese died in the early hours of 10th April 2010.
