There are two ways to share where you are when you post.

1. Tell people you’re at a specific place
   To include a specific place when you post, like a restaurant or event, click the icon and type in the name of the place or event. To say you’re there with others, click the icon and type in their names. As always, you can control who sees this post by choosing an audience before you publish it. If you tag anyone with you, that person and their friends may see the post, including where you are.


2. Include your general location
   Instead of a specific place, you can choose to include the city or area you’re nearby. This info will appear next to the timestamp of your post. If you have location added to your posts, we’ll suggest a general location like the city you’re near. To change the location: 1. Hover over the city name. 2. Click the “x” next to the city name. 3. Type in a new city (or leave blank if you don’t want to mention a city in this post).
   
   If you add your general location to your post, it’ll stay on for future posts until you shut it off. So, the next time you post, your general location will be added to that post. Once removed, it’ll stay off until you add it back to your post.

We suggest a general location for your post. If our suggestion isn’t accurate or you don’t want to include it, you can remove it by clicking the “x” when you hover over the location tag. Then if you’d like, you can fill in your current city yourself.

Places are pages that represent locations on Facebook. You can check in to places you visit from your mobile phone, tag friends who are with you, and view comments your friends have made about places you visit.

At this time, the Places application is available to people in select countries with mobile access to Facebook (either through m.facebook.com or the Facebook application for iPhone, Android, or Blackberry v1.9). Places will be rolled out more broadly and to other mobile devices and the web in the future.

Please make sure that you are using the most up-to-date software version for your iPhone, Android, or mobile device or the Places application may not function properly. Alternatively, you can access the Places application through your device’s web browser by following these steps:

1. Point your browser to http://touch.facebook.com.
2. Tap the Places tab.
3. When you are prompted to share your location, tap "Share Location."

If you are still experiencing problems, please note that you may not yet be able to use the Places application because it is a new feature that is being gradually rolled out. In the meantime, you can check The Facebook Blog for updates on product launches and other Facebook-related stories.

A Place page shows you a map of where the Place is located, a list of friends who are currently checked in at the Place (if any), as well as a Friend Activity stream of other friends who have visited the Place in the past.

Please note that if you are checked in at a Place and you have not turned off "Include me in "People Here Now" after I check in" in your privacy settings, you’ll appear in the Here Now section of the Page, which is visible to your friends and other people checked in nearby. If the Place page has been claimed by the official representative, the Place page will contain additional relevant information about the Place if it’s available. You can post a story about the Place page to your profile (timeline) by clicking the "Share" button on the bottom left of the page.

To share a place (ex: McDonald's, Museum of Modern Art) with others on Facebook, click the Share link that's located in the lower left column of the place page. You'll see a pop-up window that lets you choose how and with whom you want to share. Pick one of the following options from the dropdown menu:

• On your own Wall (timeline): Choosing this option creates a post on your profile (timeline). Control who can see your post by choosing an audience from the lock icon dropdown, and write an optional update in the open field.
• On a friend's Wall (timeline): This option lets you post the content to a friend's profile (timeline). Type your friend's name, and then an optional message in the open field.
• In a group: This option lets you post the content to a group you're a member of. Type the group's name, and then an optional message in the open field.
• In a private message: Use this option to share privately with an individual or small group of friends. Enter your friends' names, and then an optional message in the open field.
