El objetivo de este Estudio es proporcionar esta información práctica a ingenieros de drenaje y contratistas. La publicación se basa en el conocimiento actual del flujo de entrada de agua en tuberías de drenaje y envolturas, y en las propiedades y aplicabilidad de estos materiales.

The purpose of this Paper is to provide this practical information to drainage engineers and contractors. The Paper is based on the current knowledge of water flow into drainpipes and envelopes, their properties and applicability. It also contains guidelines to assess the need for envelopes and for selection of the most appropriate envelope material, as related to local conditions.

	A new Aquacrop practical exercise is now available on the FAO-Water website. The exercise tests users on their abiility to Create Climate files using the Aquacrop software. The step-by-step solution is also provided. Aquacrop is the FAO crop-model to simulate yield response to water of several herbaceous crops.

Coping with Water Scarcity: What Role for Biotechnologies?

Water scarcity affects all social and economic sectors and threatens the sustainability of the natural resources base. Addressing water scarcity requires an intersectoral and multidisciplinary approach to managing water resources in order to maximize economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems. Integration across sectors is needed. This integration needs to take into account development, supply, use and demand, and to place the emphasis on people, their livelihood and the ecosystems that sustain them.
