Blackwell Compares Gay Couples, Farm Animals
Ah yes, another “Repulsive Republican” who raises the ol’ barnyard animals canard:
Ohio’s Secretary of State is coming out strong in support of Issue One, the measure that would ban same-sex marriage. Kenneth Blackwell spoke to an energized crowd at the Cathedral of Praise Tuesday night.
Blackwell said it’s time for people of God to take a stand. He even drew a comparison between same-sex couples and farm animals. “I don’t know how many of you have a farming background but I can tell you right now that notion even defies barnyard logic … the barnyard knows better,” said Blackwell referring to the idea of same-sex marriage.
By this I take it that ol’ Kenny means gays are morally beneath even these critters. Far be it for me to assign more than basic instinct to animals and their mating habits, but homosexual behavior has been observed in all “barnyard animals” including cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, along with quite a number of species in the animal kingdom. This of course doesn’t mean a thing on whether homosexuality is moral or not, innate or not, etc., but it certainly does reveal Blackwell to be an ignorant boob. He is free to hold whatever religious view he wishes, including about my sexuality, but kindly keep your paws off of my rights and direct your narrow-minded idiocies elsewhere. Surely ol’ Kenny wouldn’t care for anyone to dredge up abandoned reasoning, from Scripture no less, why blacks are supposedly inherently inferior to whites?
When will the Republicans free themselves of these people who treat faith as some cheap whore in order to curry favor and gain power?

Republicans aren’t responsible for what is said by idiots like Kenneth Blackwell – but, are they doing enough (or anything) to repudiate him? It’s fair to ask.

You can’t be successful in politics without giving away at least a little of your own soul. There is no politician I could comfortably embrace anywhere. Bigotry is not a good campaign slogan. It hurt them in ‘92 and it will swipe them again if they are forced to fall back on that again. There are not enough cross-burners to keep them in control of Congress. They will have to promote needed causes or at least prove themselves better than the godless whores running that other party.

Free themselves? These people are the foundation of the party. Blackwell is considered a ‘rising star’ in the GOP.

Many of them that do this won’t. As long as they can get the un-informed and un-educated to vote for them by using these religious forums, their is no stopping them. It’s why the republican party is slowly being taken over by these crazed religious zealots who can and will use gays as a touchstone for their hate and bigotry. I’d like to hear form the conservative republicans on here what they can do to take back their own party.
And by the way, I’m not up on Ohio politics. By chance, is Blackwell making a run for governor? Bet a 1000 to 1 he is. Nothing like the divisiveness and message of hate to get elected by the party of morals in America.

Blackwell is indeed running for governor and though I’m not up on Ohio politics myself I believe he is ahead in the polls. Of course only the one in November matters.
As for the GOP’s embrace of the extreme Right, I’m weary of it. I find common ground with them on some issues, but not on this (for obvious reasons) and am leery of using the power of the state to enforce a morality not everyone agrees upon.

I’m still a Democrat, myself, and though my party will eventually take
power again, I’m not confident of its leadership, or its growing inclination towards socialism, or its large number of rank-and-file consipiratorialists. I’d prefer to see it re-build and re-think what the party means, but it has not taken that trouble. If it takes power and continues to behave as it has, a party hostile to the interests of its own country, I’ll probably become an independent (in California we call it “non-partisan” because of the existence of an Independent Party).
When will the Republicans free themselves from people like Blackwell? I’m afraid the answer is, when people like Blackwell fail to be popular. The Democrats have plenty of lunatics, and it operates on the same principle. Politics has an unsavory side. Free societies have an unsavory populist side.
Note in passing: According to Biblical scholarship, Genesis 9:24-27 refers to ancient political positioning between tribes over disputed lands, not race.
I also don’t think the incorrect racial interpretation was “traditional”–Christians were divided over slavery, and much of the nastiness was fought in border states. Remember John Brown?

Some of his friends in Cincinnati politics call him “Switchwell.” He will run to the center after the nomination, I have always found him to be disingenuous. I’ve never found his faith to be anything but a way to get votes. If gays where a larger part of the population, he’d be rutting with the best of us. It’s all about him. When he first came to Columbus, he had a life-sized portrait of himself placed on the wall just outside the bank of elevators, just in case you forgot whose floor you where on in the Rhodes State Office Tower. He has an ego the size of Armageddon.

You support Republicans because they’re good for your bank account.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are out there working hard to protect your civil rights– in fact, your very life– from those same Republicans.
You get the Republican tax cuts for the wealthy, get to network with rich Republicans, while the Democrats are busy spending all their money to keep those same Republicans from rounding you up into concentration camps.
The word “Parasite” comes readily to mind when I think of Log Cabin Republicans.

ken blackwell is a bigot and hypocrite.
he’s currently ahead of his republican primary opponent, jim petro…but that’s from a columbus dispatch (disgrace) poll….the same paper that had 3 of the 5 constitutional amendments passing last fall easily (only 1 passed), so don’t put much stock in their polls. petro, who really isn’t any better than blackwell, has a new ad out calling blackwell a hypocrite (which, of course he is…blackwell is against abortion, yet holds stock in the company making the abortion pill; blackwell is against gambling, yet holds stock in a company which makes slot machines).
both of these boobs, blackwell and petro, will be hard-pressed to separate themselves from the current criminal governor, bob taft (who pleaded guilty on ethics charges last year; the first time ohio’s governor has been charged/indicted and found guilty). the ohio republicans are in terrible shape as the state’s economy is in shambles, and there are numerous scandals involving them (tom noe, etc).
ted strickland, probable democratic candidate for governor, will be the first democratic governor in ohio since the 1980s. strickland’s pro-gun rights and no one will out-religion him as he’s a methodist minister by trade.
even my die-hard republican mother will vote democratic in the fall; ohioans are tired of the 15+ years of republican rule and how they’ve drained this state. their time is over.
so, to ken blackwell, go back under the rock from under which you crawled. you’re a disgusting piece of human garbage.

We’ll ignore the many examples of hypocrisy among liberal politicians, and instead address the obvious ignorance of this child, who knows nothing of investing, or how it is done. You invest in a portfolio. A spectrum of stocks comprise the portfolio. You rarely have the option of divesting in one stock in your portfolio and keeping the others.

Well, from my perspective, why am I supposed to be upset when a conniving politician makes an allusion to barnyard animals? It doesn’t make me a barnyard animal. He can namecall all he wants; I know who I am, what I stand for, and what’s important.
Please. Gay conservatives are used to being called names DIRECTLY, like “Jews for Hitler”, or “Kapo”, or “self-loathing”, that are far worse than Blackwell’s oblique statement. What’s even funnier is that these come from people who are screeching that Republicans want to put gays in concentration camps that they insist are operating.
The REASON you’re doing this is simple, Erik; the more you can divert attention away from the tens of millions of dollars of support you’re giving people who think gays are born different and don’t deserve marriage, and should be deprived of rights by constitutional amendment — a stance you would call “hateful” and “homophobic” anywhere else, but call “pro-gay” and “gay supportive” for them — the better off you’ll be.

i know all about investing and the financial industry. if one is running for office, one needs to be extremely proactive in looking at one’s portfolio and weeding out any stock that might give any conflict of interest. blackwell failed to do so and now he’s viewed as a hypocrite, which of course he is.
in an interview blackwell gave to the alternative columbus paper, the other paper, he suggested that homosexuality is a choice and if one prays hard enough, then one can be ‘cured.’ so, not only is he a hypocrite, but he completely fails to account for the current scientific thinking. lol, then again, he thinks the world was made in 6 days about 6000 years ago.
ohio will not elect this man…i seriously doubt he’ll even make the general election; petro will beat him handily next tuesday. you heard it here first.

It is unlikely that Blackwell would make it to the general election, but not because of his rather abhorent policies or his corruption. He would probably lose in the primary because he is of the wrong race. I was raised in Cincinnati, and still have some ties there. Ohio is still fairly racist.

raj: i think you’re partially right about ohio. cincinnati is notoriously bigoted (cincy is, of course, just over the river from kentucky). the further one goes north, the less the racial tension. here in columbus, i don’t think racism is overt; homophobia. however, is rampant, evidenced by the 62% of ohioans that think gay folks merit second-class status.

I haven’t been reading long, but it seems rather clear to me that rightwingprof and northdallasthirty are either not gay or they have some serious issues with being gay. Selfhating comes to mind when I read their illogical diatribes. They never answer a question; instead, they attack the questioner or pick out some Democrat or liberal who did the same or worse thing, as if that justifies not holding a Republican to account. Let RWP and Mr. Blackwell rut together in Ohio, then.

Unfortuately, haven’t been reading long puts you behind the curve a little, but no big deal. North Dallas 30 has stated he is gay during previous postings. From this posting (and previous), the issue isn’t being gay, it is how to handle an insult from a politican. There can’t be any self-loathing is ND30 is stating I know who I am, what I stand for, and what’s important. I bolded that quote particually because as a sign of self-acceptance, I believe it also. Self-loathing is a lack of self-acceptance.
Furthermore, attacking a particular party, such as the Democrats in the example you note, doesn’t mean the other party gets a free ride on the topic. And none should be implied, unless you are looking to trump something on a ‘technicality’, not the issue. It may just mean both parties are equally bad.
