Nokia posts better-than-expected Q1 result
Mobile telephone giant Nokia saw its result collapse in the first quarter of this year. Sales of handsets declined by one fifth. Profitability had fallen sharply from a year earlier, and Nokia Siemens Networks showed a considerable loss. Nevertheless, unlike its main competitors, Nokia did actually make a profit, which was taken as a positive sign on financial markets; Nokia's share price shot up considerably in Thursday's trading after the results were made public.

Thors accuses Zyskowicz of divisiveness in asylum debate
Minister of Migration and European Affairs Astrid Thors has reacted sharply to comments made by National Coalition Party MP Ben Zyskowicz on her ministry's handling of the backlog of asylum applications. Zyskowicz said that Thors and her civil servants have an “attitude problem”, and expression that Thors felt is not appropriate for an MP representing a government party. The number of asylum applicants rose last year to 4,000, whereas in the previous year there were just 1,400 applicants. The government and Parliament have already earmarked more funding to speed up the processing of the applications.

Helsinki 1908 comes to life in photos by I.K. Inha
In the summer of 1908, the celebrated Finnish landscape photographer I.K. Inha took his camera out into the streets of the capital for a tourist guide. After the booklet was published, the glass negatives went into storage in the archives of publishers WSOY, where nearly a century later they were recently unearthed, and have been brought back to life as a book and exhibition.
