Health leaders call for a healthy Farm Bill

Charter for a healthy Farm Bill
Every five years, the Farm Bill puts into motion funding and programs that determine the U.S.'s diet—especially that of low-income communities. Despite dealing directly with the health effects of a broken food system, health professionals have seldom been engaged in Farm Bill legislation. Healthy Food Action—a project of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy—has drafted The Charter for a Healthy Farm Bill and is asking health professionals and concerned citizens to sign on.

A Climate-friendly Farm Bill

We're in a rut when it comes to taking action on climate change. Congress has stalled on passing climate legislation. International negotiators failed to agree on binding emission cuts in Cancun late last year. And it's unclear whether the EPA will have the power to regulate greenhouse gases. Fortunately, we have a tool to help us make a real impact on slowing climate change: the Farm Bill.

Empty climate deal leaves agriculture behind

Cancún, Mexico hosted the 2010 global climate talks in December. IATP sent a delegation to Cancún and blogged about the negotiations.

IATP has also produced a new series of papers urging governments to follow civil society's lead in producing real climate solutions.

New website for MN Farm2School

IATP has launched a new Farm2School website to connect students, parents, farmers, educators and other community members with useful tools and information. The site features an interactive map that shows where Farm2School is happening in Minnesota, videos, articles, tip sheets and more.
