The commission's secretary general, Mansur Escudero, said the group had consulted with Muslim leaders in other countries, such as Morocco — home to most of the jailed suspects in the bombings — Algeria and Libya, and had their support.
"They agree," Escudero said, referring to the Muslim leaders in the three North African countries. "What I want is that they say so publicly."

The fatwa said that according to the Quran "the terrorist acts of Usama bin Laden and his organization Al Qaeda ... are totally banned and must be roundly condemned as part of Islam."

This seems to be a positive development. I would like to see however, the analysis undertaken by the Ulemma Council in reaching their decision. Is it just a statement? I want to see the steps taken to arrive at that decsision. Without them this fatwa is worthless.

If clerics were really serious about repairing the image of Islam, long ago they would have issued fatwas against extremism and would have encouraged the faithful to do their part to rein in the jihad.
Jihad is done in the service of Islam. Jihad is not only suicide bombings; it is any activity that furthers the goals of Islam by any means possible, including seemingly peaceful means.
Bin Laden is only one of many of thousands of violent extremists. There are millions of non-violent jihadists whose activities are more dangerous than terrorism.

I just wanted to make a general posting, and present my view on a particular manner. I make these comments because I believe that JihadWatch is one of the most essential and groundbreaking organisations of our time. I want to comment primarily on reader comments on this site. It would probably be impossible for the management of JihadWatch to moderate each and every comment made by individuals on this site.
Much of the commentary from readers is constructive and adds to the discourse. This commentary helps shed light on the realities of Islam. However, another portion of the commentary from readers borders on reprehensible. This portion of commentary, in my view, makes it even more difficult for JihadWatch to carry out its important work. Such commentary includes overly broad and sweeping statements (often with genocidal over and undertones), incoherent and uneducated generalisations. The Armanious murders are instructive. I believe that JihadWatch is being called into account for the comments of its readers. JihadWatch, with respect to the Armanious murders, made no accusations, and cautioned people from making judgments.
I think this sort of commentary,I'm sure many will agree, is actually harmful to the mission of JihadWatch, and diminishes the intellectual value of the substantive content.
I implore all of us to post well thought replies that do not take something away from the inherent value of JihadWatch. Should we continue to be critical and challenge the current status of Islam? Of course, but let us do it in a more intelligent way.
Everyone here wants JihadWatch to succeed and gain further influence in society in general, as well as polic circles. Lets help make sure it does.

I agree with Mr. Haidon.
There are angry people on here. And why not? Jihadists and islamofascists do reprehensible things to a number of groups because of their own fear, rage, and ignorance. Hence their triumphalism, hence their anger, hence their incomprehension. It's, as I say, understandable: every round of fresh outrages, ignored by the MSM, ignored by (certain) leftist perspectives, and lionized by islamofacists raises the outrage level even more. Islamofascists don't care because hate is their life, and everyone they preach to is buying. But falling to their level doesn't help, since as always those deemed reactionary are going to be subject to a much higher level of scrutiny than any others.
While as I say the enraged reactions are understandable, regrettably there are those who will interpret such statements in the most advantageous political light. They pray for this - this 'Norseman' poster or whatever he's supposed to be, for example, prays daily for some horrifying fate to befall muslims in the Western world, because it would serve his political goals. So it is with others seeking to impose religious fascism on us all at the point of the sword. They feed on hate - and they know that your hate, however temporary, is more apparent than their hate, however permanent. You are under greater scrutiny because of your tolerance.
As Mr. Haidon points out, we must hold ourselves to higher standards. I'm far from one to preach on this, but I'm developing a thicker skin. Think before you click - your ideological opponents may not, but you are not being held in any way to similar standards.

The timing of this supposed fatwa comes at the anniversary of the Madrid train bombing and coincides with a UN-backed conference now taking place in the Spanish capital on the nature of terrorism.
This fatwa has been made because of fears that Muslims might have about infidels sussing out the true nature of Islam and any subsequent backlash, and to help the conference arrive that their foregone conclusion that it is Israel's fault that certain Muslims are acting so aggressively.
If not, why have there been no fatwas against other Islamic terror groups and states?

This was the case in the killing of British ISM activist, Tom Hurndall, who was fatally shot in Rafah six days after Brian's injury. The internal command inquiry ruled that Tom was shot because of the presence of a Palestinian militant in his vicinity. The criminal investigation of the military police discovered that the soldier who fired the fatal shot and another soldier had lied in the internal inquiry. Charges of killing and interfering with the investigative procedure were brought.

Press Release : Major Breakthrough in case of Tom Hurndall Killing The campaign to obtain justice for Tom Hurndall has achieved an unprecedented breakthrough in its bid to get to the truth behind Tom's killing by an Israeli soldier last spring. The 21 year old British student photographer, was shot while he was shepherding children to safety in Rafah, Gaza .
In May this year Tom's family, through its lawyers - Avigdor Feldman and Michael Sfard, challenged the State Prosecution in respect of its decision not to release crucial evidence contained in the Military Police Inquiry Report.
They argued that ' there is a moral and legal obligation that whatever evidence has been collected and which has led to the indictment of a soldier for manslaughter should be made available 'to be independently tested '. This, they argued 'would be in line with the spirit of the consistent promises of 'Openness and Transparency' made by representatives of the Israeli Army and representatives of the Israeli Government including Ariel Sharon himself'.
The State Prosecution has been forced to take steps, unprecedented since the beginning of the Intifada in 2000, to make all of the evidence available to the family's lawyers. Sight of the evidence will be limited to the family's lawyers only and will not be directly available for family members or other parties to scrutinise. The State Prosecution has argued that this is to prevent a 'Media Trial'.
Crucially, the implications of this result are substantial and are expected to be ground breaking.
The lawyers will seek to address three crucial issues:
Is the current indictment against a soldier for manslaughter, the appropriate indictment or should the indictment be changed to murder?
Are there others who should be indicted in relation to the incident leading to the death of Tom Hurndall?
Are there systemic causes which led to the fatal shooting of Tom Hurndall and does responsibility for his death rest also with those higher up the chain of command?
A family friend and spokesman for the Tom Hurndall Foundation said: "This is a major step forward in our campaign to find out exactly how Tom died and who is responsible. The implications of getting access to this evidence are substantial. We took this to the Supreme Court when we discovered that promises from the Israeli Government of transparency and openness were ill founded."
He said: "Fourteen eye-witness statements gathered by the family, indicate that multiple shots were fired at a group of 20 children playing on a mound. Soldiers were firing above the heads and between the feet of the children - three of whom were frozen to the spot in terror. We have photographs of children fleeing from the shooting. In contrast the Israeli Army claims that there was a single shot – the shot that fatally wounded Tom Hurndall."
The trial in Israel, of Sgt Idier Wahid Taysir, who is facing six charges in connection with the killing of Tom Hurndall, is scheduled to resume on 11 th ,12 th August with additional dates scheduled on 22 nd August, 12 th & 23 rd September, 12 th & 28 th October and 18 th & 28 th November .
The charges for which Sgt Idier Wahid Taysir is currently indicted are manslaughter; two counts of obstruction of justice; incitement to false testimony; false testimony & improper conduct. He has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.
The trial is taking place at a Military Court within the Military base at Castina Junction in Ashkalon, near Tel Aviv.
The 19 year old brother of Tom Hurndall – Billy Hurndall, last month learned that he would not be allowed to enter Israel to attend the trial. In a letter from the Israeli Ministry of Interior, the family's lawyers were informed that Billy 'represented a security risk' to Israel and would not be allowed access into the country. Although the Ministry of Interior refused to give reason for this classification, it is understood that the refusal is based on Billy's visit to the Occupied Territories to meet members of the International Solidarity Movement following the incident last spring.
The family are outraged at this decision, which removes Billy's basic right to attend the trial of his brother's killer. They said "For Billy to attend the trial represents more than just the chance to see justice done, but a very real need to obtain some sort of closure in what has been a most horrific period in his life." The family plan to appeal this decision in the courts.

I could be wrong, but Idier Wahid Taysir doesn't sound like a Jewish name. I would also be very, very skeptical about any account of the events presented by the ISM whose activities largely consist of protecting terrorists and weapons-smuggling tunnels and instructing Palestinian children on the art of burning American flags.

I do not understand the word “We” in this passage. I was under the impression that Islam had only one God (Allah), the "We" implies more than one. Is the translation incorrect?

I've seen this before, from Islamists' translations. Probably just Mohammed invoking the "royal we" to puff up his self-appointed prophet's status.
The question is whether or not the `we` exists in the original. I`m not an expert, but I`ve never heard of the `royal we` being a Middle Eastern tradition.

Compare this fatwa, which has no effect by the way, outside of the muslim ummah of Spain and then, those under the jurisdiction of the ulama who issued it, to the fatwah against Salman Rushdie.
I would have taken it seriously if it called for the head of Osama and declared the Muslim Brotherhood in all of it's manifestations (be it the FIS, GIA, Ansar al Sunnah, Islamic Jihad, etc as well as al Qaeda to be apostates, whose lives are thus available to any and all muslims, but it didn't, it was PR Sop for the gullible and gulled who are anxious for any "sign".
