Environmental Right-to-Know Internship

 

OMB Watch is seeking a public policy intern to work on environmental information and access issues. The candidate must be able to work independently and have the capability to work unsupervised. The position is available for summer 2010 but could be extended – the end date is flexible.

Internship responsibilities include:
  • Research – Assist in gathering information on new developments in open government and transparency, access to information, public participation in policy making, and scientific knowledge, all with a focus on environmental and public health science and policies at the federal and state levels;
  • Website Maintenance – Add content to environmental information website, assist in website design and adding new features; and,
  • Project Assistance – Assist with projects as needed, including lobbying and policy analysis, editing reports, surveys, and conference planning.
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and/or strong interest in environmental issues;
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program;
  • Computer knowledge including Microsoft Office programs;
  • Familiarity with Drupal (an open source web content management platform) is a big plus; and,
  • Some familiarity with HTML a plus.
Although the position is unpaid, OMB Watch is a small organization, allowing interns to gain experience in the nonprofit sector and specifically, experience with policy analysis, lobbying, and the legislative process. This is a great opportunity for individuals seeking to enter the nonprofit advocacy world or those interested in the development of public policy. Academic credit may be available.
