Rice's collaborative efforts get an upgrade

For medical researchers in the Texas Medical Center seeking assistance in computing, Rice University and IBM can help. Rice has received a supercomputer from IBM that it plans to use for collaborative research with other institutions in the Texas Medical Center. The powerful computer will help researchers study cancer, AIDS and other diseases.

As a child, Shannon Walker became fascinated with space travel. That passion brought Walker to Rice University, where she studied space science and earned three degrees in the field. Now, thanks to that education, the Rice alumna is preparing for her first space odyssey.
