Statement on Ninth Circuit's Decision in Newdow Pledge Case
Thu, 03/11/2010Statement regarding the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' decision ruling the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance constitutional.
The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892. Our pledge was officially recognized in 1942 by the United States Congress. The Secular Coalition for America supports this pledge.
During the vicious Joe McCarthy era the U.S. Congress added the phrase “Under God” to the Pledge. The Secular Coalition for America supports the original Pledge of Allegiance which did not then -- and should not now -- include the phrase “under God.” Read more »
Secular Coalition for America Makes History with Administration Briefing

The event opened up new channels of dialogue between American nontheists and the Obama administration, serving as the latest indication that we are gaining significant momentum, and that secular Americans, numbering in the tens of millions, are a constituency that must be included in national policy decisions. U.S. House Members Ask President Obama to Heed Coalition Against Religious Discrimination
Wed, 02/17/2010Five members of the U.S. House of Representatives have signed on to a letter in support of the Coalition Against Religious Discrimination (CARD), of which the Secular Coalition for America is a member, and its request that the Obama administration address the problem of religious discrimination in hiring practices by houses of worship receiving your tax dollars under the so-called "Faith-Based Initiatives" program.
