    I'm loving 's new album, though can't help but feel that the vocoder/messina effect veers too close to Bon Iver's recent material. That's the trouble with distinctive sounds. Bon Iver took something from Kanye and made it radically different.

    I was just telling my son last night that teachers rarely know the longterm impact they have on students. And then today I hear from a student who took a class on jazz I taught ages ago, when I was just 21 years old. He told me I changed the way he listened to music. What a joy!
