GEO   Keeping the Global Environment Under Review
The Global Environment Outlook (GEO) is UNEP’s flagship assessment process which helps keep the global environment under review. It is a tool that informs decision-making, focusing on assessment priorities and analyzing policy challenges and opportunities. It is also a capacity building tool, bringing together diverse stakeholder groups from all regions. Finally, it is a communications tool that aims to raise awareness on the state and trends of the environment and provide policy response options.

The First Global Intergovernmental and Multi-stakeholder Consultation on the fifth Global Environment Outlook Report (GEO-5) was held in Nairobi, Kenya from 29-31 March 2010. The Consultation finalized and agreed on the objectives, scope and process for GEO-5 in the form of a Final Statement

GEO-5 Nomination Process

GEO-5 is a participatory and multi-disciplinary process and in that spirit, the Final Statement has called on UNEP to initiate a Nomination Process.

Experts will be nominated by Governments and Stakeholder Groups such as Collaborating Centres, other relevant institutions and United Nations agencies.

UNEP will select nominees by matching expertise to specific roles paying due regard to disciplinary, gender and geographical balance.

All nominations should be made on-line.
The Nomination Form is available on the GEO- 5 Nomination Portal.

The nomination period is opened from 16 April – 16 May 2010
