Troy University Young Americans for Liberty ran our Constitution Week event on Wednesday, September 17. We had planned on running the event all week, but there was an issue with our Free Speech Ball being taken and popped, apparently those guys have never heard of the Non-Aggression Principle.
The event ran from about 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and during this time we had approximately 500 separate people sign our free speech ball. We had a bit of collaboration with the Troy University Political Science Club; they spent the day passing out pocket constitutions.
Overall, people seemed to enjoy the event. There were a few complaints about language on the ball; someone had written George Carlin’s “Seven Words You Can’t Say on TV." We were able to explain that free speech is sometimes unpopular, and that the point of the First Amendment is to protect unpopular speech.
