Engagement

As the FAA continues to advance the National Airspace System (NAS), we're committed to meaningful engagement and open dialogue with those affected by airspace changes. Our current engagement strategy includes working with airports and community leadership through roundtables, ad hoc committees, and task forces. We also routinely engage the public through Community Engagement initiatives, such as our Noise Complaint Initiative (NCI), to understand specific challenges and propose solutions to alleviate concerns.

Opportunities for Engagement

Changes in airport operations, airspace procedures, aviation infrastructure, and technology can have impacts on communities. Part 150 noise compatibility programs and community roundtables are two methods by which airports and the FAA can help communities understand and participate in recommending changes to aviation services in their community. Aviation Noise

While there are many benefits to air travel, aviation noise can be a concern for communities. Over the last 40 years, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been working to reduce the number of Americans exposed to aviation noise around airport communities. Addressing this concern requires collaboration among the FAA, air carriers, airports, aircraft manufacturers, research universities, other stakeholders and industry partners, local communities, and elected officials. Engagement Framework

The National Airspace System (NAS) is divided into nine regions, each led by a Regional Administrator (RA). The FAA's Regional Teams are composed of a Service Center, Regional Administrator, and other FAA officials, who work with Community Engagement Officers (CEOs) to determine how to best engage with affected communities on topics such as proposed airspace changes.

When developing a new project or procedure that may impact the public, the FAA proactively engages with airports, communities, and elected officials better understand community concerns about aviation noise.
