To comment on something:

1. Click the Comment link under the post or in the white box that says Write a comment...
2. Type your comment
3. Press enter or return to publish it

To tag someone in a comment, type the "@" symbol. Pick the friend you want to mention from the dropdown menu that appears. The person you tag is notified about the comment if she or he can see the original post.

You can also mention pages, events, groups or apps. If the menu appears and you don’t want to link to a name, just continue typing your comment and the options will disappear.

Press shift and enter on your keyboard at the same time to create a new paragraph or line break within a comment.

To remove a comment you made, just click the "x" that appears when you hover your mouse over the comment.

To respond to a comment someone has made on a post directly from the email notification, simply reply with your comment in the body of the email. Your comment will then be posted after that person’s comment.

To make commenting faster and easier, we've removed this button. To comment on a post, just press your enter or return key. If you want to create a new paragraph or line break within your comment, press shift+enter on your keyboard.

If you are experiencing problems posting comments using the enter or return key, your Internet browser may be the cause of these issues. If you are using an earlier browser version such as Firefox 2, you will need to upgrade to the latest version.

When a comment contains a link, we show a preview of the link's content with the comment. This applies to links to other websites, videos, music, and other content on Facebook. If you see a preview of a video or music, you can play it right from the comment.

If you'd like to remove a link preview from a comment you posted, click the Remove Preview link that appears under the preview after you post. You can also remove previews from other people's comments on your posts without deleting the actual comments.

Anyone who can see a post can like or comment on it. That means:

• People in the audience you choose for the post
• Friends of anyone that's tagged in the post

The only people that can see the story about your comment are those who can see the content you commented on. For example, if you commented on a photo that only you and your friend can see, only you and your friend would be able to see the story on your Wall (timeline).

Blocking allows you to prevent most interactions with someone on Facebook. People you block won't be able to find you in searches, view your profile (timeline), or contact you with pokes or personal messages. In addition, they will not be able to see your Wall (timeline) posts, comments on mutual friends’ Walls (timelines), or that you are a member of the same group as them.

The privacy setting for "Public Search" only applies to search engines indexing a preview of your Facebook profile (timeline). This setting does not apply to comments you have made in Groups or Pages that are open to everyone. If you do not wish to have these comments indexed by search engines, please delete them.

Unfortunately, Facebook does not have control over content that has already been indexed and cached in search engines. To request the immediate removal of this search listing, you will have to contact the specific search engine’s support team. Unfortunately, Facebook cannot submit requests on behalf of a user. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you have permission to comment on a photo:

1. Go to a photo and find the text box below it that reads, "Write a comment…"
2. Type your comment in the text box and press enter or return.

This comment will be visible to anyone who views the image. Please note that you can only comment on your friends' photos or other photos in which you have been tagged.

When viewing a video that you are allowed to comment on, you should see an "Write a comment..." box below the video. Please note that you can only comment on your friends’ videos or videos in which your friends are tagged.

You can add a comment by clicking the title of a note and scrolling to the bottom of the page. When you have written your comments in the box, click "Comment."

Anyone who can see your notes can comment on them.

To edit the privacy for an individual note, go to your note and use the audience selector to choose who can see it. Friends of people you tag will also be able to see and comment on the note.
