When you create content (ex: update your status, post a picture), a story is posted to your Wall (timeline). We also generate a News Feed story so that the next time your friends log into Facebook, they see the content you shared on their homepage. You can control the visibility of these stories by using the audience selector when you post.

The Wall (timeline) is a place to post and share content with your friends.
Sharing with a broad audience: Use the share menu that's located at the top of your home page and profile (timeline) to let others know what's on your mind. You can update your status and share photos, videos, links and other application content. Things you share will appear as posts on your profile (timeline), and can appear in News Feed. (To control whether or not specific people have the option to view your stories, you can change the privacy settings for each piece of content you post.)
Sharing with a small group of friends: Use the Groups feature to share content with a select group of people, like family members, your soccer team or your book club.
Sharing with an individual: You can use the share menu at the top of your friend's wall (timeline) to write or share something on his or her Wall (timeline). Friends of your friend will also be able to view your post. If you'd like to share something privately, you can always send someone a private message.

Anyone who visits your profile can see that you have a Wall, but what they see when they click your Wall tab depends on the privacy you've set for posts there.
Who can see posts on your Wall
The visibility of posts you make on your own Wall depends on the audience you choose for each post using the audience selector. For example, a friend will see posts you've set to Friends and Public, while a non-friend will only see posts you've set to Public. If you do not have any public posts, then a non-friend will see a blank Wall tab.
The visibility of posts others make on your Wall depends on the setting you've chosen for who can see posts by others.

Only you and your friends can post to your Wall. To block people from posting to your Wall:
Go the Account menu at the top right corner of Facebook and choose Privacy Settings.
Next to the How You Connect heading, click Change Settings.
From the dropdown menu next to “Who can post on your wall?” choose Only Me.
Note: Friends can comment on posts they can see, including posts on your Wall even if you have restricted who can post to your Wall. If you want to totally block individuals from posting to your Wall - including commenting on posts from others - you'll need to also limit them from seeing friends' posts on your Wall.

When you post something on a friend's Wall (timeline), who else gets to see it will depend on the privacy settings your friend has selected. If you want to write something to your friend privately, don’t post it. Send a message instead.

Remove recent activity stories by clicking the X that appears to the right of the story when you move your mouse over it.
If you want to prevent people from seeing a recent activity story about a change in your basic info (ex: changed relationship status):
Click the Edit (Update Info) button in the top right corner of your profile (timeline) and find the field you want to edit. Before you edit it, choose Only Me from the privacy audience selector.
Make the change and then view your profile (timeline). You may see a story about it, but because you selected Only Me this story is only visible to you.
Delete the activity story from your Wall (timeline).
Go back to your Edit section and change the audience of that section back. Because you deleted the story from your Wall (timeline), they won't see a story about the change you made.
