By default, your privacy settings allow everyone to find you in a search. But when people click on your search listing, they won’t be able to see all of the information in your profile (timeline). They will always be able to view your name, gender, profile picture, username, user id (account number) and networks (learn why). Your privacy settings determine whether people can view additional information when they click on your search listing.

If you’d like to modify who can find you in search:
  1. Click the account menu at the top right of any Facebook page and choose Privacy Settings.
  2. Next to the Manage Settings for How You Connect heading, click Change Settings.
  3. Select your preference from the dropdown menu next to “Who can look up your profile (timeline) by name or contact info?”

People You May Know helps you find people you are likely to know. We show you people based on mutual friends, work and education information, networks you’re part of, contacts you’ve imported using friend finder and many other factors.

Since our formula is automatic, you might occasionally see people you don’t know or don’t want to be friends with. To remove them from view, just click the X next to their names. Remember: Facebook will never send friend requests to anyone that shows up in this list on your behalf.

You can block someone from appearing in Suggestions by clicking the "X" button at the top right of their entry. This will close the person's entry and prevent them from appearing in this section again.

Please note that the Suggestions section will not appear if you block all of the people Facebook suggests. You can, however, find this section by clicking the Friends drop-down menu and selecting "Find Friends." Once you have more matches, this section will reappear on your homepage.

If you don't want someone to find you at all on Facebook, you should block that person from the Blocked People and Apps section of the Privacy Settings page.

The "Who can look up your profile by name or contact info?" setting controls who can find your timeline (profile) by typing your name or contact info into the main search bar on the site. Keep in mind, however, that people may still be able to find content you post or are tagged in through Facebook search, and that such content can include links to your profile (timeline). If someone clicks on one of those links, they will only be able to see what you allow them to see.

Note that people may also be able to see your name when tagging a piece of content (through our tag suggestion typeahead).

We want to make it easy for people who have interacted off of Facebook to find and connect with each other on Facebook. People who already know your email address will always be able to locate you in searches or through our Friend Finder, even if you currently restrict the visibility of your contact information.

As always, you have control over who can find you in a search through your privacy settings. You can restrict your privacy settings through the Privacy Settings page. Select "View settings" in the "Connecting on Facebook" section. From there, you can restrict who can search for you on Facebook. You can also control how people can contact you once they've found you.

You can remove contacts you uploaded using friend finder here.

Although we cannot retract invitations that have already been sent, you can delete contacts from your Invite History list. This will prevent any future invitation reminders from being sent to these people.

Please report this information here, so we can memorialize this person’s account. Memorializing the account restricts profile (timeline) access to confirmed friends only. Please note that in order to protect the privacy of the deceased user, we cannot provide login information for the account to anyone. We do honor requests from close family members to close the account completely.
