Clay Risen is an obituaries reporter for The New York Times. Previously, he was a senior editor on the Politics desk and a deputy op-ed editor on the Opinion desk. He is the author of several books, including, most recently, “Bourbon: The Story of Kentucky Whiskey” and “The Crowded Hour: Theodore Roosevelt, the Rough Riders and the Dawn of the American Century.”
