Hillary’s “It’s 3 a.m. And Your Children Are Safe And Asleep” Ad

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Hillary, The War On Terrorism, Video

She’s actually playing on parents’ fears of children dying to win votes. Unbelievable.

I mean, on one had it’s sad she’s resorting to Rovian tactics, but I’m not surprised given the type of campaign she has run. This is par for course at this point.
TPM also sums up why this ad is a bad idea for [...]

McCain: “I’m a proud conservative, liberal, Republi…uh…”

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Conservatism, Liberalism, McCain, Video

Heh, the fatigue of the campaign trail…

I do hope the debate is respectful, as he promises.
Fingers crossed.

An Eye-Witness Report on Texas Voting

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Texas

Yesterday, I went to the polls here in Texas. I gave myself twenty minutes to vote, twice as much time as it usually takes at the local early voting location. Almost an hour later, I finally cast my ballot.
The Republican and Democratic voters all waited in the same line but you could tell who was [...]

Andrew Sullivan Is Losing It

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Hillary

He doesn’t like Hillary and after this campaign I can relate. But I’ve been more and more turned off lately by how “creative” his dislike can be.
Exhibit A:
We’re at that moment in the campaign that reminds me of a horror movie. There’s a kind of relief that the worst cannot happen, that the Clintons are [...]

Obama Raised Over $50M In February

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Money

I speculated about this earlier, but now Marc Ambinder shares some gossip…
But though Barack Obama’s campaign is keeping mum, you can bet that somewhere in Chicago, David Plouffe is cracking a smile.
That’s because the campaign is expected to announce having raised more than $50M this month, breaking all records and all expectations.
Wow, that really is [...]

Obama Supporters Want A Longer Contest?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Hillary, Polls

Surprising findings from a recent Pew survey. Because while Barack’s supporters want superdelegates to follow the popular sentiment, they favor a longer primary contest than Hillary supporters.
Here’s the graphic…

Check out the whole thing.

Wanna Take A Survey About Politics?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Polls

I was contacted tonight by a student who’s trying to get some people interested in politics to answer a survey about the candidates, etc. I just took it and it goes a lot quicker than the 15 minutes the following message suggests.
Take a look…
The purpose of this survey is to examine how people think and [...]

Obama To Raise “Considerably More” Than Jan.’s $36M Haul

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Money

From Politico:
Obama spokesman Bill Burton, anticipating the Clinton campaign’s announcement that she has raised roughly $35 million this month, tells me that the Illinois senator has raised “considerably more than that” in the same period.
Obama has claimed more than 1 million donors over the course of the campaign, and raised $36 million last month, with [...]

Clinton Raises $35M In Feburary

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Money

Yet another sign that the Democrats will handily out-raise their opponents. Because while this haul is impressive, it’s a safe bet that Obama is going to eclipse his January total of $36M.
From Politico:
A Clinton advisor confirmed the figure, which is enough to suggest that money won’t be an obstacle to Clinton’s campaign going forward — [...]

Rasmussen: Obama Leads Texas, Pennsylvania Now Tight

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Hillary, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Polls, Texas

Remember, if Obama wins Texas, it’s all over. That’s been the Clinton campaign’s contention all along, and even Bill said if she didn’t win both Texas and Ohio, she wouldn’t get the nomination.
First we have Texas, where Obama is showing surprising strength:
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey shows Obama attracting 48% of the vote while [...]

McCain and Obama Begin the Iraq Debate

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Iraq

Looks like John McCain and Barack Obama are giving us a preview of the general election’s Iraq debate.
In the Wisconsin Democratic debate, Obama said: “If Al Qaeda is forming a base in Iraq, then we will have to act in a way that secures the American homeland and our interests abroad.”
John McCain later responded: “I [...]

Howard Dean Smears Republicans With Racism

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Partisan Hacks

As most of you know, I supported Howard Dean in 2004. Since then he’s turned into a disappointing, tired political hack. And this latest attack on Republicans is just beyond the pale.
From Georgetown Voice:
The Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and former Governor of Vermont contrasted the two parties’ presidential candidates, saying that with a [...]

Clinton Could Win Texas but Lose the Delegate Count

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Texas

They say everything is bigger down here in Texas. Everything is also more complicated. The byzantine rules for the state’s upcoming primary must have been developed after a wild night of margaritas and cervezas on 6th Street. When all is said and done, the winner of the popular vote could very easily come out with [...]

Bloomberg Ain’t Running

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Bloomberg

I wonder what Doug Bailey and Gerald Rashfoon are gonna do now?

Can Chris Peden Beat Ron Paul?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Ron Paul, Texas

Wonkette has an exclusive interview with the man who Ron Paul refuses to debate…
Here’s Peden on Paul the Congressman…
His voting record is … it’s horrid — 351 pieces of legislation he sponsored, six came out of committee, and none have ever passed. And if you go back and look, he just regurgitates the same pieces [...]

Who Do You Dream About?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Comedy, Hillary, Ron Paul

Hillary?
I went up to Hillary Clinton and said, Thank you for running, it means a lot to us. She rolled her eyes in this weird way so that I couldn’t tell if she was rolling her eyes because she was moved by what I said and was trying not to cry, or if she was [...]

Tennessee Republican Party Smears Obama

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, McCain

Well, not that this is surprising, but with McCain publicly asking his supporters to not do stuff like this, it’s curious that they’re ignoring him…
Here’s the piece that was sent out:

If McCain can’t control these folks they’re really going to hurt him. Even Karl Rove is cautioning his brethren to not use the “Hussein” when [...]

Quote Of The Day

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Hillary

“Beating on the press is the lamest thing you can do. It is only because of the utter open-mindedness of the press that Hillary can lose 11 contests in a row and still be treated as a contender.”

R.I.P. William F. Buckley Jr.

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in Conservatism

One of America’s preeminent conservative thinkers and one of the most influential intellectuals of the last half century has died. Through his work at The National Review and elsewhere, William F. Buckley Jr. helped revitalize conservativism and champion limited government. Unlike so many pundits of today, Buckley was never entirely predictable and kept thinking and [...]
