New GM CEO Says Bankruptcy Still Possible

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in Bailouts, Cars, Corporate Business

After months of hand-wringing, bailouts and backlash, new GM CEO Fritz Henderson says bankruptcy is still a very real possibility:
The company, he said, has until June 1 to accomplish changes sought by the government, or it will be in bankruptcy. The 60-day deadline should be enough time, but if it becomes evident that the changes [...]

Obama Derangement Syndrome Redux

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Barack, Bush, Democrats, History, Republicans

Personally, I just don’t care at this point. People will think what they want. It was dumb when the left did it to Bush and it’s just as dumb now.
From David Horowitze agrees:
Conservatives, please. Let’s not duplicate the manias of the Left as we figure out how to deal with Mr. Obama. He is not [...]

Americans Don’t Blame Obama for Economy (Yet)

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in Barack, Economy

Despite the continued economic woes, Americans aren’t yet ready to blame our new president. At least that’s the conclusion of a new Washington Post/ABC News poll:
Asked who was responsible for the economic meltdown, 80 percent in the poll blamed banks, financial institutions and corporations. Some 70 percent also blamed consumers for taking on too much [...]

What Geithner Has Accomplished

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Economy, Video

A little perspective…
In two months, he has unveiled sweeping initiatives — a stress test for big banks, a small-business lending program, a housing plan, a public-private toxic-asset investment program, and a massive financial-reregulation proposal.
He meets with Summers daily and the president almost every day, talks to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke multiple times a day, [...]

Obamas Funding White House Renovations Themselves?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Barack, Good Decisions, Money

If nothing else it’s a welcome example of personal wealth responsibility and not wasting tax payer’s money on seemingly frivolous things.
From NY Mag:
New presidents are allotted $100,000 to overhaul the White House residence and the Oval Office, and the Obamas hired Hollywood decorator Michael S. Smith (known, per his site, for mixing “Old World classicism [...]

Gallup: Geithner With 42% Approval

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Economy, Polls

And 40% disapprove.
That leaves 18% who have no opinion. So, theoretically, if he split the undecideds he’d have 51% approval. Not bad for all the shots he’s been taking.
And, as expected, the Independent voter provides the balance between Dems and Repubs…

Here’s the thing…it seems like we saw numerous government officials get rock bottom [...]

Republicans Will Not Offer A Detailed Budget

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Bad Decisions, Legislation, Money, Republicans

Looks like the Republican’s “budget” presentation last week was little more than a PR stunt after all. And I’m not sure why they even bothered. Because all it did was make them seem even less credible when it comes to fixing the economy.
Not smart.
From The Note:
According to a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, [...]

Trust Me. Romney’s In For 2012.

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2012 Election, Romney

Since he’s not holding an elected office right now, he’s the most well positioned of any of the 2012 hopefuls to be THE voice of opposition. Because he can present ideas galore and none of them have to pass any test or go before any vote.
And now, well, there’s this:
The former Massachusetts governor and 2008 [...]

On Wagoner Being “Forced” Out

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Bailouts, Barack, Cars, Money

So it’s pretty apparent people are upset that there are different rules for the automakers and banks. Well, I’m not sure what to tell you except the entire economy isn’t leveraged against the health of the Big 3. Yes, they’re vitally important and I think we should continue to help them out, but they don’t [...]

A real measure of economic woes? Geithner (Forehead) Index

By Phil Bronstein | Related entries in News

We need Timothy Geithner.
His two-places-at-once magic press act this weekend just confirms it.
It’s not because the Treasury Secretary was on George Fluffalupagus’ show and “Meet The Press” at the exact same time, though he gets a Ubiquitous Obama award for that. And it’s not because the Geithner guillotine guessing odds flipped and flopped Sunday just [...]

Missouri Kills 3rd Party/Militia Bumper Stick Profiling

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 3rd Party, Barr, Missouri, Ron Paul, Terrorism

This was definitely troubling, so it’s good to see that some real action was taken after the report was revealed.
From McClatchy:
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Highway Patrol this week retracted a controversial report on militia activity and will change how such reports are reviewed before being distributed to law enforcement agencies.
The Highway Patrol [...]

McCain Says Public Financing Is Dead

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, History, McCain, Money, Technology

I do feel bad for the guy, but with the internet providing the means for anybody to easily donate to a campaign, the game changed and McCain’s public finance laws couldn’t change with it.
From Wash Times:
“No Republican in his or her right mind is going to agree to public financing. I mean, that’s dead. That [...]

Sorry the site has been behaving weird for, well, a while. And it has been especially bad this last week. We were having some major database issues and very normal things were taking forever to load. And so the problems and so the frustration and my sincere apologies for all of it.

Afghanistan is Now Obama’s War

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in Afghanistan, Barack, War

The phrase “war on terror” may no longer be in vogue, but the fight against terrorism remains a top priority, as confirmed by President Obama’s announcement today:
Obama warned that al-Qaida is actively planning attacks on the United States from secret havens in Pakistan. He said he was setting new benchmarks and sending in 4,000 more [...]

Are Banks Already Gaming The Geithner Plan?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Banks, Economy, Money

If you really know what’s going on with how Geithner’s plan is structured and how the banks can take advantage of it, then this is the type of behavior is incredibly suspect because it appears as if they’re gambling with the TARP money when they should be lending it instead.
From NY Post:
As Treasury Secretary Tim [...]

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Republicans, Video

I think it might be somewhere there in the middle if you look really closely, but I wear glasses so tell me if you can see it or not.
