Hennessy announced Thursday that he plans to depart his post as Stanford's 10th president in the summer of 2016, after serving in major academic leadership roles at the university for more than two decades. The Board of Trustees will appoint a presidential search committee this summer.

Stanford announced Thursday a new agreement to provide the majority of its campus electricity from renewable sources within California. A Stanford Solar Generating Station, to be designed and built by SunPower, is expected to provide half of all campus electricity.
