Youth athletics in this country is faced with complex challenges. A broad array of constituents, including young athletes, their families, schools, coaches, government organizations, amateur sports groups, equipment manufacturers, and medical experts, are struggling to map out a coherent national strategy to provide a healthy environment for millions of youngsters.

Thought leaders in the world of youth sports will be brought together in six highly interactive sessions moderated by the course instructor. While the issues have significant overlap, each session will focus on a major factor that is influencing the future of youth sports, such as funding, safety, health (obesity), and balance. Guest speakers will include Jim Thompson, founder and chairman of the Positive Coaching Alliance; Jill Vialet, founder of Playworks; coaches of elite youth sports organizations; public high school coaches; media writers who focus on youth sports issues; and medical experts. This course is targeted for parents, coaches, administrators, and community leaders who are looking to understand how they can create an improved environment for all young athletes that is financially sustainable. It is also appropriate for general sports fans who are interested in the complex issues facing families and communities. There will be a dynamic opportunity for professionals, educators, and families to interact with the guest speakers.
