Co-President: Sam Steyer

M.S. Candidate, Computational and Mathematical Engineering

Sam is a candidate for an M.S. in Computational Math with a focus on smart grid and utility integration of renewable power. Prior to coming to Stanford, he served as a Project Coordinator for the 2Seeds Network, an agriculture-focused nonprofit based in East Africa, working with the management of Tanzania’s largest crop market to build a system for recording and sharing prices using mobile phones. Before that, he was an analyst with Advanced Energy Economy. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Math from Harvard College, where he played defense for the Men’s Lacrosse Team.

Ph.D. Candidate, Materials Science and Engineering

Madhur is pursuing a PhD in the Materials Science and Engineering department. He is conducting research under Professor William Chueh on elevated temperature water-splitting for renewable and affordable hydrogen fuel production. A proud Bay Area native, Madhur is interested in the interface between energy technology and policy, with a focus in energy storage. In his spare time, Madhur enjoys being Yelp Elite, exploring local restaurants, playing badminton/basketball, and going to Golden State Warriors games.

JD Candidate, Stanford Law School

Jaclyn is a first-year law student at Stanford Law School interested in energy efficiency and renewables.  She previously researched nuclear policy as a Fulbright scholar in France and Junior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. She holds a B.A. in international relations from Stanford University. In her free time, Jaclyn enjoys live music, playing tennis, hiking, and cooking.

Co-VP Events: Brock Petersen

M.S. Candidate, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Atmosphere/Energy Specialization

Brock is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on energy use in buildings.  He grew up in Atlanta, GA and received a B.E. in Structural Engineering from Vanderbilt University.  After completing his B.E., Brock worked at Thomson Reuters where he valued tangible assets at large thermal and wind power plants.  He left Thomson Reuters to return to his engineering roots and hopes to merge his interests in structural engineering and energy by designing Net Zero Energy Buildings.

VP Marketing: Shea Hughes

M.S. Candidate, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Atmosphere/Energy Specialization

Shea is pursuing a Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on the renewable energy sector. He grew up in Tampa, FL, and received a B.S. in Biochemistry and a minor in International Studies from the University of Miami. This summer, Shea will be working on initiatives aimed at providing access to sustainable energy sources in developing economies as a MAP Fellow at the United Nations Foundation. After completing his Master’s Degree, he hopes to work on energy solutions that address environmental and human rights issues.

VP Business Development: Darren Handoko

B.S. Candidate, Materials Science and Engineering

Darren is a junior undergraduate from Claremont, CA majoring in Materials Science and Engineering. He has worked in Geothermal Technologies at the Department of Energy in Washington D.C. and has done production engineering at ConocoPhillips in Houston, TX. On campus, he does social science research at the Freeman Spogli Institute on hydraulic fracturing, industrial disasters, and organizational theory. Darren loves hiking and golf in his spare time and has a passion for photography, wristwatches, and poker.

VP Energy Journal: Zhengwei Luo

M.B.A. Candidate, Graduate School of Business

Zhengwei is pursuing an M.B.A at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She grew up in Northeastern China and graduated from Jilin University, China with a B.A. in Information Engineering. She received her M.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Ottawa. Prior to Stanford, Zhengwei worked for four years in the renewable energy industry, including a two-year rotational leadership program in China, Denmark, and the U.S. and two years as an project manager for technical support of 10,000 2MW-class I wind turbines in more than 40 countries. Now, Zhengwei also serves as a board fellow for Acterra, an environmental NGO. In her spare time, she enjoys playing volleyball, pool and Guzheng, a traditional Chinese instrument.
