Summer in Shanghai

Michael Si spent a memorable summer in Shanghai with Stanford's China Internship Program developing new skills and making new friends.

Michael Si was one of sixteen students selected to participate in the School of Engineering's summer 2012 China Internship Program. The students covered a wide spectrum of majors and each spent the summer with host organizations drawn from a range of multinational and local companies.

This is Michael's story:

My summer internship at MicroPort Medical was a very rewarding experience. The company has a environment conducive to communication and collaboration. I often had long conversations with laboratory technicians and other R&D engineers, and topics varied widely from work to life in general.

To plan and conduct experiments for my own projects, I sought help and guidance from more experienced colleagues who were always willing to work with me. Working at MicroPort allowed me to gain a lot of insight into the medical device industry, and I was able to not only apply what I had learned in the classroom, but I also acquired new skills and technical knowledge from my mentors and coworkers.

Shanghai is a vibrant metropolis, and I had many opportunities to visit different places and attend events organized by local Stanford alumni. Overall, my summer experience was a great one.

The 2013 China Internship Program application deadline is February 11, 2013. Learn more about the program.
