Our Story
Advancing Student Development and Learning
Student Affairs leads transformative learning experiences for Stanford students by enhancing academic learning through dialogue, connection and innovation beyond the classroom. Students are engaged intellectually and personally. Rigor, imagination, creativity and exploration are fostered in an environment where students can experiment in order to advance their understanding of themselves and the world.
Promoting Diversity, Inclusion and Reflection
Student Affairs furthers the university’s mission of engaging students who are from diverse backgrounds with diverse experiences; cultivating ethical leaders, influencers and critical thinkers; and promoting responsible and engaged citizens, who work to make a positive impact in their community, wherever they reside. Through sustained reflection about the complexity of the world and their role in it, students increase their cultural competency and empathy for others.
Fostering Community Engagement
Student Affairs realizes that student success is measured by personal achievement as well as the advancement of the common good. By promoting identity and character development in students, we help foster meaningful connections and relationships and nurture a vibrant community with shared values, which includes responsibility for and accountability to others. Through participation in Stanford’s community centers, student organizations, leadership and service programs, and more, students experience the interconnection and interdependence of the local community to the global.
Empowering Students to Thrive
Student Affairs staff value the potential of each individual, and we are committed to the success and well-being of all Stanford students. We help students tackle some of life’s most challenging moments through our expertise and dedication.
