Troubleshoot issues with Drive offline access

When using Drive offline, you may occasionally see an error message, like these:

  • “Some changes could not be synced, and this file may not be accessible offline.”
  • “Something went wrong, and offline is unavailable.”

If you see either of the messages above, quit and restart Chrome. (Or, if you're a Chrome OS user, restart your computer.) On Windows, if you see the Chrome icon in the system tray after closing the browser, right-click it, and then click Exit to make sure that Chrome has fully exited. Then re-open Chrome.

If you're still seeing the message after restarting Chrome, you need to clear your offline settings. Any edits that haven't been synced to Drive will be lost, so copy any important edits before following the steps below:

  1. Type chrome://settings/cookies in the address bar.
  2. Search for "docs.google.com" and click the "X" to remove all URLs related to "docs.google.com" (for example, "0.docs.google.com").
  3. Follow the instructions above to restart Chrome.
  4. Finally, re-enable offline access.
