The inaugural class of Public Service Honor Society members was selected in spring 2012. This new initiative to recognize and celebrate the public service contributions and learning of Stanford students is part of the Haas Center’s five-year strategic plan implementation process.

The purpose of the honor society is to provide students an opportunity to reflect upon their public service experiences and the development of their respective civic leadership identities. The honor society is intended to recognize and celebrate seniors who have accomplished the following:

  • demonstrated a commitment to their development as a civic leader through engagement in course work, research and public service-related endeavors;
  • strived to implement and embody the Haas Center’s Principles of Ethical & Effective Service in their interactions with community partners;
  • cultivated the knowledge, skills, values, and self- and community-awareness necessary to be effective civic leaders;
  • contributed to campus, local, state, national or global communities through one or more public service pathways.

Students inducted into the honor society commit to the following:

  • attending at least one designated event each quarter during senior year
  • remaining civically engaged during their senior year
  • making a commitment to remain active in their civic engagement after graduation
  • willingness to serve as a mentor for future Stanford students through Haas Center programs
