Program Summary

The Staff Tuition Reimbursement Program (STRP) supports employee development by providing partial or full payment of tuition and covered fees for courses meeting requirements of undergraduate or graduate degree programs. Payments are made directly to the employee's eligible institution. The Program also provides reimbursement for allowable expenses such as books, supplies and equipment.

Certificate programs are excluded; eligible individuals must be enrolled in a degree program to qualify for assistance. The degree program does not need to be work-related. An employee may not receive reimbursement under the Staff Training Assistance Program (STAP) and STRP for the same course or program.

FAQs

Below are some frequently asked questions about STRP. For a complete list, view the Staff Tuition Reimbursement Program FAQs.

WHAT IS THE STAFF TUITION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM?

Stanford University is dedicated to the professional development of its staff. The university believes that it is important for staff members to continuously learn in order to grow and develop throughout their career. The Staff Tuition Reimbursement Program (STRP) supports staff development by providing partial or full reimbursement of tuition costs and covered expenses for courses meeting requirements of undergraduate or graduate degree programs at accredited U.S. institutions.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS?

To be eligible for Staff Tuition Reimbursement Program, staff members must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a regular or fixed-term staff member in a benefits-eligible University position and 50% full time Equivalent (FTE) or greater. STRP benefits are pro-rated for eligible staff members who work less than full time
  • Have completed one year in a benefits-eligible, ongoing, regular or fixed-term position
  • Be enrolled in a degree program at an eligible institution

Note: Faculty, students or other temporary workers are not eligible for STRP assistance.

WHAT ARE THE INSTITUTIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS?

Courses must be taken at (or online through) a regionally-accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order to be eligible for reimbursement.

Make sure that your school is regionally accredited before you apply to STRP. Additional accreditation information can be obtained from the school, from the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) at its website: www.chea.org, or from the U.S. Department of Education at its website: http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/.

If, prior to April 30, 2015, you were approved for attendance at a school that is not on the above list, you may continue attendance at that school until you complete your degree.
